Chapter 9 - The New Generation

The winter of 2026 arrived with a beautiful, soft blanket of white snow covering the city of Boston. The glass towers of Sovereign Group were illuminated with golden holiday lights, celebrating the most profitable fiscal quarter in the company's history under my independent leadership.

On December 12th, at 4:12 AM, I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful seven-pound baby girl at the Sovereign Group Medical Pavilion.

I sat in the private, luxurious recovery suite, looking out at the snow falling over the Charles River. The room was filled with hundreds of bouquets of white roses, sent by board members, international diplomats, and tech executives from around the world.

Marcus stood guard at the door, a soft, rare smile on his face, while Arthur sat in an armchair nearby, checking the morning market data on his tablet.

"How is the market, Arthur?" I asked, my voice tired but filled with a deep, profound peace as I held my daughter close to my chest.

"Sovereign Group stock is up six percent this morning, Chairwoman," Arthur said, looking up with a smile. "The institutional investors are calling your transition the most successful corporate consolidation of the decade."

"And the Morrisons?"

"Richard has begun his community service sentence after forfeiting his assets," Arthur reported. "Diane is currently working as an assistant manager at a discount retail store in New Hampshire, living in a studio apartment. Brendan’s appeal was officially denied yesterday morning. They are no longer a factor in our operational matrix."

I looked down at my daughter’s face. She had my eyes—the sharp, clear hazel eyes that saw through the illusions of the world. She had a small tress of dark hair, and her tiny fingers were wrapped tightly around my thumb.

"What is her name, Cassidy?" my father, Thomas, asked as he walked into the room, wearing a fine, clean wool suit that I had bought him, his mechanic's hands now clean and rested.

"Her name is Victoria," I said, kissing her soft, warm forehead. "Victoria Hayes. Because she belongs to a house that always wins."
