Chapter 4: The Truth Unveiled

"Federal Agents! Nobody move!"
Special Agent Raymond of the FBI entered the study with his weapon drawn, backed by two military MPs. Sheriff Miller immediately threw his hands in the air, his gun belt already unbuckled and dropping to the floor.
"I'm the Sheriff here! This is a misunderstanding!" Miller shouted.
"Quiet, Miller," Agent Raymond snapped. "Your radio logs and text messages have been intercepted under a federal corruption warrant for the past three hours. Secure him."
An MP quickly cuffed the Sheriff, while another moved to Caleb, who was still groaning on the floor, clutching his broken wrist.
Margaret stood frozen against the wall, her eyes darting like a trapped animal. "Daniel... how could you do this to your own family? I raised you! I protected you!"
"You killed my wife, Margaret," Daniel said, his voice flat, completely devoid of any familial warmth. He reached into his hidden pocket and pulled out the microSD card, handing it directly to Agent Raymond. "Here is the primary evidence. Unencrypted copies have already been uploaded to the Pentagon's secure server. It contains full video and audio of the homicide of Emily Vance, as well as the financial forgery documentation."
Agent Raymond took the card with a solemn nod. "Thank you, Warrant Officer. We have a federal medical examiner outside with a specialized forensics team. They are securing Mrs. Vance's body right now to perform a proper autopsy."
Margaret collapsed into a chair, her face looking suddenly ninety years old. "It was Caleb's idea... he owed the loan sharks... they were going to kill him..."
"Shut up, Mom!" Caleb yelled from the floor as he was being hauled up by the MPs. "You're the one who came up with the suffocating plan! You said she was just a common girl who didn't deserve our family money!"
"Take them away," Agent Raymond ordered.
As Margaret was led out in handcuffs past the shocked neighbors and relatives gathered in the living room, she stopped and looked at Daniel one last time. "You'll never survive this, Daniel. You'll be alone. You can't raise that boy by yourself."
"He's not alone," a firm voice spoke from the hallway.
A woman stepped forward through the crowd. It was Clara Evans, Emily’s older sister, who lived two states away. Daniel had contacted her via text message early that morning, realizing she was the only family member Emily truly trusted. Clara had driven through the night to get here. Her eyes were red from crying, but her jaw was set with the same fierce determination that Emily always possessed.
Clara walked past Margaret without a glance and went straight to Daniel, pulling him into a tight, desperate hug. "I'm so sorry, Daniel. I came as fast as I could."
"Thank you for coming, Clara," Daniel whispered, his stoic facade cracking for just a brief second as a single tear escaped his eye.
"Where is my nephew?" Clara asked.
"Upstairs. Secure," Daniel said. "Let's go get him."
They walked upstairs together, leaving the chaos of the arrests behind. In the nursery, Leo was awake, his large dark eyes—exactly like Emily's—looking around the room. Clara gently lifted him from the bassinet, tears streaming down her face.

"He looks just like her, Daniel," she whispered.
"He does," Daniel agreed, looking out the window as the forensic team carefully removed Emily’s coffin from the house, not for a hasty, hidden burial, but to finally uncover the truth and give her the justice she deserved.
