Chapter 6 - The Reclamation

For two hours, Elena sat quietly, absorbing the staggering scale of the betrayal. She didn't cry. She didn't panic. Instead, as Marcus laid out the financial fraud, the fake letters, and the attempt on my life, her expression transformed into something icy, resolute, and formidable.

"They took seven months of our children's lives," Elena said softly, her voice carrying a deadly quiet focus. "They tried to kill the father of my babies. They don't just lose the company, Adrian. They lose everything."

"What do you want to do?" I asked, sitting beside her, taking her hand.

"Call a full board meeting of Cole Urban Development for Monday morning at nine o'clock," Elena said, looking directly at Marcus. "Inform every major media outlet in the Pacific Northwest that Adrian Cole, founder and CEO, will be making his first public appearance alongside his wife and newborn triplets."

Marcus grinned, a fierce light shining in his eyes. "A public execution. I love it."

"And what about Margaret and Paige?" I asked.

"Let them come to the meeting thinking they still have a fighting chance," Elena replied, her eyes narrowing. "Let them bring their lawyers and their corporate proxies. And then... we crush them in front of the world."

Over the next three days, while our babies continued to thrive in the NICU, Marcus and a team of forensic accountants worked around the clock. We secured sworn affidavits from Rosa, the estate security guards, the mechanic from Felts Field, and the bank manager who had processed Paige's illegal wire transfers.

On Sunday night, the evening before the board meeting, I brought Elena back to our home in the South Hill neighborhood of Spokane.

My family had attempted to sell the house, but Marcus had blocked the closing through an emergency court injunction. Walking through the front front door felt surreal. The furniture was covered in dust sheets, my personal photographs had been removed from the walls, and the master bedroom had been picked clean of Elena's clothes and jewelry.

"They tried to erase me," Elena whispered, walking through the empty living room, her fingers trailing over the mantle above the fireplace where our wedding portrait used to hang.

I walked up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist, resting my chin on her shoulder.

"They failed," I said softly into her ear. "We're going to rebuild this house. We'll build three nurseries upstairs. We'll fill every room with noise, laughter, and messy toys. This place will belong to Leo, Alexander, and Sophia."

Elena turned in my arms, resting her hands against my chest. "Promise me one thing, Adrian."

"Anything."

"When this is over... when the company is secure and Margaret and Paige are dealt with... we leave the corporate rat race behind. We take time for our children. We live."

I kissed her softly on the lips. "I promise."
