Chapter 9 - The Fall of the Architect

Richard never made it to Sophia.
I intercepted him mid-air, my fist colliding with his jaw with a sickening crack. He spun around, crashing into the ice sculpture of the Drummond logo, sending shards of frozen water exploding across the stage.
He lay on the wet floor, groaning, his nose pouring blood onto his white shirt.
I stood over him, my chest heaving, looking down at the man who had stolen twelve years of my life. I raised my fist to strike him again, but a small hand touched my wrist.
It was Sophia.
"Father," she said softly. "Don't. He's already lost."
I looked from her calm, wise eyes down to Richard, who was now being handcuffed by the federal agents. The anger that had fueled me for days suddenly evaporated, leaving behind a profound, clean peace.
"You're right," I said, lowering my hand. "He's not worth it."
As the agents dragged Richard out of the ballroom, the crowd began to applaud. It started with a few board members, then spread until the entire room was cheering.
I turned to the crowd, holding Sophia's hand.
"This is Sophia Drummond," I said into the microphone. "And upstairs is my son, Arthur Drummond. They are the future of this family. And from this day forward, the Drummond Group will no longer be a company built on ruthlessness. It will be a company built on family."
The aftermath of that night was a whirlwind.
Richard's trial was swift and brutal. With Isabella's testimony and the federal evidence Marcus had gathered, he was sentenced to consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. Isabella received a reduced sentence of probation and community service in exchange for her full cooperation, allowing her to quietly fade out of our lives to seek the help she sorely needed.

The Drummond Group underwent a massive restructuring. I purged every board member who had aligned themselves with Richard, replacing them with people who valued integrity over profit.
But the most important changes happened at home.
