Chapter 8 - The Table in the Corner

That night, the grand dining room of Lumière was glowing with holiday warmth.
A massive Christmas tree stood in the center of the room, decorated with crystal ornaments and golden ribbons. The pianist played a soft, beautiful rendition of Silent Night, and the laughter of families filled the air.
At table twelve—the corner table—a grand feast was laid out.
Victor sat at the head of the table. Beside him sat Sarah Vance, looking beautiful and peaceful. Little Leo sat in a high chair, happily smearing mashed potatoes across his bib, while Lily sat proudly between Victor and her mother, wearing a dark velvet Christmas dress.
Sophia Moretti stepped out of the kitchen herself, carrying a tray of special chocolate soufflés, setting them down with a broad, affectionate smile.
"Everything to your satisfaction, Victor?" Sophia asked softly.
"It is perfect, Sophia," Victor smiled, looking at the happy family sitting around him. "Absolutely perfect."
Lily looked up at Victor, her brown eyes shining bright under the chandelier lights. She reached out her small hand and rested it over Victor’s hand on the white tablecloth.
"Victor?" she whispered.
"Yes, my sweet girl?"
"Are we going to come here every Friday night?"
May you like
Victor looked down at the tiny hand resting in his, then looked over at the empty space where his grief used to live. The dark glass cage was gone forever, replaced by the light of a new family, a new purpose, and an endless future.
"Yes, Lily," Victor replied, squeezing her hand gently as a tear of pure happiness slipped down his cheek. "Every single Friday. Together."
