Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Oath

As twilight painted the sky in brilliant hues of lavender, rose, and gold, the estate settled into a tranquil evening peace.
After a long dinner filled with laughter, Maya walked out onto the terrace wearing her cozy pajamas. Bruno trotted faithfully beside her, curling up on the warm stone tiles at Alfred's feet.
Maya walked over to Alfred’s chair, climbing onto his lap and leaning her head against his chest.
"Alfred?" she asked softly, looking up at the stars appearing in the evening sky.
"Yes, Maya?"
"Do you think my mommy and daddy can see us from up there?"
Alfred wrapped his arms securely around her, resting his chin gently on top of her head. "I know they can, Maya. And I know they are at peace, knowing you are safe."
Maya pulled the silver signet ring from her pocket—the ring Alfred had given her before the battle at Black Lake—and slipped it onto her thumb.
"I'm never going to lose this," she whispered, her eyes heavy with sleep. "And I'm never going to leave."
Alfred looked out over his domain—a city he had once ruled through fear, now transformed by an act of unconditional love. He looked down at the little girl sleeping peacefully in his arms, and the loyal dog resting at his feet.

He knew that the shadows of his past would never touch this home again. He had built a fortress not of iron and guns, but of family, devotion, and an unbreakable oath.
"You're home now, Maya," Alfred whispered into the quiet night. "Forever."
