Chapter 6 - The Westin Ambush

The Grand Ballroom of the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle was packed with three hundred high-net-worth investors, medical journalists, and corporate board members.

At the center of the elevated stage stood Victor Sterling—a silver-haired, sixty-two-year-old man wearing a ten-thousand-dollar tailored suit and a confident, winning smile. On the fifty-foot digital screen behind him, a massive presentation slide read:

AEGIS-9: THE FUTURE OF PEDIATRIC IMMUNOLOGY - GLOBAL LAUNCH.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Victor Sterling’s smooth, resonant voice echoed through the ballroom’s sound system. "After five years of rigorous development and overcoming the tragic internal theft that delayed our progress, Harrison Medical is proud to announce that Aegis-9 has received final regulatory clearance!"

The crowd erupted into polite, enthusiastic applause.

In the front row sat Arthur Pendelton, Harrison Medical’s chief legal counsel, smiling broadly as he reviewed the legal release documents on his tablet.

"This drug," Sterling continued, leaning his hands on the podium, "will generate an estimated four hundred million dollars in revenue during its first fiscal year, securing Harrison Medical’s position as—"

BANG.

The heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open with violent force.

The applause instantly died. Three hundred heads turned toward the rear of the hall.

Walking down the central aisle, bathed in the bright spotlights of the stage, was Michael Harrison.

He looked majestic, cold, and utterly terrifying. He wore a crisp dark charcoal suit, a black tie, and his tall, broad frame radiated an aura of absolute dominance that made the crowd instantly hold its breath.

Beside him walked Marcus Vance, holding a secure digital tablet.

And beside Marcus... walked Clara Vance.

She was transformed. She wore an elegant, tailored navy wool dress provided by Maria, her pale blond hair styled in a sleek French twist, her posture erect, her gray eyes shining with fierce, unbroken brilliance. In her arms, she carried tiny three-month-old Maya, wrapped in a pristine white cashmere blanket.

Gasps rippled across the ballroom like a shockwave.

Victor Sterling’s hands froze on the podium. His face drained of all color, turning a sickening, ash-gray hue. Beside him, Arthur Pendelton dropped his tablet onto the floor, his jaw dropping in sheer, paralyzing horror.

"Michael?" Sterling stammered into the microphone, his voice cracking slightly. "What... what is the meaning of this disruption? We are in the middle of a shareholder vote!"

Michael didn't stop until he reached the base of the stage. He stepped up the carpeted stairs, taking his place beside the podium, completely usurping Sterling’s physical presence.

"The vote is cancelled, Victor," Michael declared, his voice carrying through the room with thunderous, quiet authority.

"You can't cancel a board vote!" Sterling yelled, panic creeping into his eyes. "Security! Remove these people!"

None of the security guards moved. Marcus Vance stepped to the edge of the stage, signaling two armed, off-duty police officers who immediately blocked the ballroom doors.

Michael turned toward the fifty-foot digital screen behind the stage. He pulled a remote control from his pocket and pressed a single button.

The presentation slide vanished.

In its place flashed a massive, high-definition document: the decrypted 2021 financial audit showing Sterling Capital’s offshore accounts in Delaware, followed by Clara Vance’s original, unedited toxicity lab reports on Aegis-9.

The ballroom exploded into frantic, deafening chatter! Journalists jumped from their seats, flashes from news cameras strobing rapidly across the stage!

"What you see on this screen," Michael announced calmly into the microphone, his eyes locking onto Victor Sterling, "is proof of grand larceny, corporate fraud, evidence tampering, and the deliberate attempt to distribute a toxic drug to sick children for profit."

"This is a lie! A conspiracy!" Sterling shrieked, clutching his chest as he turned to the board members in the front row. "He's insane! He's trying to ruin the company!"

Michael took a step closer to Sterling, leaning down so his face was inches from the older man’s sweating forehead.

"You stole forty million dollars, Victor," Michael whispered, loud enough for the stage microphones to pick it up. "You framed Dr. Clara Vance. And last night, you hired a security guard to let her freeze to death on Fourth Avenue so she could never speak."

Michael turned back to the crowd. "Detective Miller of the Seattle Police Department is waiting in the foyer."

The front doors swung open again. Four uniformed police officers walked briskly down the central aisle, carrying Federal arrest warrants.

Arthur Pendelton tried to slip out through the side exit, but Marcus Vance stepped in front of him, locking his arm behind his back with a sharp, swift movement.

As the officers snapped steel handcuffs around Victor Sterling’s wrists, dragging the screaming, cursing former Vice Chairman off the stage in full view of two dozen news cameras, Clara Vance stepped forward to the podium.

She stood before the crowd, holding her daughter in her arms, her voice clear, strong, and completely devoid of fear.

"My name is Dr. Clara Vance," she announced to the world. "And I am here to reclaim my life."
