Chapter 10 - The Quiet Perfection of Home

That evening, the first snow of the season began to fall softly over the Oregon mountains, dusting the pine needles in pure white.

Inside the craftsman house, the smart lights dimmed automatically to a warm, cozy amber glow.

In the living room, a large fire crackled in the stone fireplace, casting dancing shadows across the hardwood floors. The four girls were piled together on the oversized sectional sofa under a thick fleece blanket, fast asleep after an evening of board games and hot cocoa.

Hannah sat in a wide armchair near the window, watching the snow fall gently outside. She wore a soft grey sweater, her hands resting comfortably on her rounded bump.

Michael walked into the room softly. He didn't turn on any overhead lights, knowing the cozy firelight was all they needed. He carried two warm mugs of decaf tea, setting one on the small table beside Hannah’s chair before settling onto the wide armrest beside her.

He reached down, taking her hand in his. His thumb gently traced the gold band on her ring finger.

Hannah looked up at him, her dark eyes reflecting the warm glow of the fire.

What are you thinking about? Michael signed softly with his free hand, his movements slow and peaceful.

Hannah looked over at the sofa, where Lily was snoring softly with her arm draped over Sophie, and Emma and Ava were curled up like small kittens under the blanket. Then she looked back up at her husband—the man who had learned her language in the dark, who had fought beside her, and who had loved her without a single reservation.

I was thinking about that rainy Saturday at the café, Hannah signed back, her hands glowing in the firelight. I was thinking about how I thought my life was broken because one man couldn't see me.

Michael squeezed her hand tightly, his eyes soft with profound devotion.

And now? Michael signed gently.

Hannah leaned her head against his hip, looking out at the peaceful, silent snow falling over the valley—a world quiet, vast, and infinitely beautiful.

May you like

And now, Hannah signed, her face serene, complete, and radiant with love, I know that silence was never a wall keeping me out. It was a doorway leading me home to you.

Michael leaned down, pressing his lips gently against hers in the warm, golden quiet of their home—a place where no words were needed, where every sign was a promise, and where love spoke louder than the world ever could.
