Chapter 6 - The Unspoken Words

The cool night air outside the Portland Financial Tower was crisp and refreshing.
The media frenzy had finally cleared, leaving only the quiet street below. The four girls were practically vibrating with energy, running in circles on the wide plaza, their little hands signing frantic victory dances to each other.
Michael and Hannah stood near the marble fountain at the center of the plaza.
Michael looked at Hannah. The adrenaline of the evening was fading, replaced by a profound, overwhelming sense of gratitude that left him temporarily speechless.
"You saved their school," Michael said softly, his voice thick with emotion. You saved my girls' future.
We saved it together, Hannah signed back, her eyes soft in the amber glow of the streetlights.
Michael took a step closer to her. He reached out, his hands gently taking hers.
"When Clara died three years ago," Michael spoke aloud, his voice dropping to a whisper, while his fingers gently traced the palm of her hand, "I swore to myself that my entire life would be dedicated to protecting those four girls. I thought I had to do it alone. I thought no one else would ever understand our world—the silence, the beauty of it, the constant fight to be heard."
Hannah looked up into his eyes, her heart beating a rapid, steady rhythm in her chest.
"And then," Michael continued, his hands moving with profound tenderness, a wonderful woman walked into a café on a rainy Saturday. And my daughters were smart enough to recognize her before I was.
Hannah’s breath caught. Michael...
"I know it’s only been three days," Michael signed, his blue eyes searching her face with absolute vulnerability. "I know how crazy that sounds. But I don't want to go back to a life where you aren't in it, Hannah."
Before Hannah could answer, four tiny bodies suddenly slammed into them from both sides.
Lily, Ava, Emma, and Sophie squeezed themselves between Michael and Hannah, wrapping their small arms around both of their legs at once, forming one massive, tangled group hug.
Sophie looked up, her dark eyes shining with hope as she signed with one free hand:
Can she come home with us now, Daddy? Does she have to go away?
Hannah dropped to her knees right there on the cold plaza pavement, wrapping her arms around all four girls at once. She buried her face in their soft hair, feeling the warmth of their tiny bodies, and let out a laugh that was half-sob.

She looked up at Michael, who was looking down at them with a look of pure, unadulterated love.
I’m not going anywhere, Hannah signed to the girls, her hands steady, her heart completely whole. I’m right where I belong.
