Chapter 4 - Extraction and Confrontation

The sudden shatter of glass shattered the quiet room like a grenade going off.
Before the doctor or Celeste could even scream, I kicked the remaining wooden frame inward, stepped through the billowing curtains, and landed in the center of the room in a low tactical stance.
"What the hell—!" Preston shouted, whirling around.
I didn't give him a second to process. I closed the distance in two steps, drove my left palm upward into Preston’s nose—shattering the bone instantly—and followed with a sweeping leg strike that sent him crashing headfirst into the heavy mahogany coffee table. He collapsed onto the rug, groaning in agony as blood poured from his face.
Celeste shrieked in terror, backing into the corner. "Security! Security!"
The doctor dropped the syringe, his hands flying up into the air. "I’m just a hired contractor! Don't shoot!"
"Shut your mouth," I growled, pulling a tactical wire cutter from my vest. I stepped over Preston’s semi-conscious body, rushed to the bed, and snipped the nylon flex-cuffs holding Emily’s wrist.
"Mom...?" Emily gasped, looking up at me through swollen, tear-filled eyes. She collapsed into my arms, weeping hysterically against my tactical vest. "Mom... you came... you actually came..."
"I’ve got you, baby," I whispered, kissing her bruised forehead, wrapping my arm firmly around her waist to support her weight. "I’m taking you home right now."
Heavy footsteps pounded down the hallway outside. The heavy oak bedroom door was thrown open, and three armed estate security guards burst into the room, their pistols drawn.
Behind them stood Senator Malcolm Harrow, his face twisted in absolute fury.
"Hold your fire!" Malcolm ordered his guards, stepping into the room and staring at his broken son on the floor, then at me holding Emily. "Colonel Vance... you have committed armed burglary, assault, and home invasion. You are completely finished."
I stood my ground, holding Emily firmly behind me, my eyes locking onto the Senator’s with lethal intensity.
"Your son beat my daughter, bound her to a bed, and attempted to forcibly sedate her to conceal his crimes," I said, my voice echoing off the high ceilings like a thunderclap. "You are harboring a felon and participating in human trafficking and domestic captivity."
"This is my house!" Malcolm bellowed, pointing a shaking finger at me. "My guards have full authority to use lethal force against intruders! Drop to your knees, Colonel, or you will leave this property in a body bag!"
The three guards raised their handguns, aiming directly at my chest.
I didn't flinch. I didn't drop. Instead, I reached up to my tactical vest and unclipped a small black digital device that had been flashing a steady red LED light since the moment I broke the balcony glass.
"Every word spoken in this room for the last four minutes," I said calmly, holding up the recorder, "including your son’s confession about pushing Emily down the stairs, your wife’s admission of domestic abuse concealment, and your order to forcibly sedate her, has been broadcast via live encrypted satellite stream directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Virginia State Police Command Center."
Malcolm’s face went entirely grey. "You're bluffing."
"Check your phone, Senator," I suggested coolly.
At that exact moment, a loud, high-pitched emergency alert tone began blaring simultaneously from Malcolm’s phone, Celeste’s phone, and the guards' earpieces.
Outside the mansion, through the shattered balcony window, the dark night sky was suddenly illuminated by dozens of blinding red and blue strobe lights coming down the long private driveway. The deep, rhythmic thrumming of two heavy FBI tactical helicopters echoed through the clouds directly above the estate's roof.
A booming loudspeaker shattered the night air from the lawn below:
"ATTENTION BLACKRIDGE ESTATE SECURITY. THIS IS THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION. THE PROPERTY IS SURROUNDED. DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND STEP OUTSIDE WITH YOUR HANDS RAISED IMMEDIATELY!"
The three security guards looked at each other in absolute panic. Slowly, one by one, they lowered their weapons and set them on the floor.
May you like
Malcolm staggered back against the wall, clutching his chest, staring at me as if he were looking at a ghost.
"I told you on your front porch four hours ago, Senator," I said, lifting Emily into my arms and walking right past his trembling security guards. "Enjoy your empire while you still can. Because tonight... I tear it apart."
