Chapter 10 - Ever After

Three years later.

The grand living room of our Alpine estate was filled with the sound of pure, ringing laughter.

Two-year-old Eleanor—whom we called Ellie—was running across the plush cream rug in a tiny floral dress, holding a wooden toy sailboat above her head, her dark curls bouncing behind her.

"Fast, Daddy! Look how fast!" Ellie chirped happily, her bright brown eyes sparkling with boundless energy.

Dominic, wearing a casual sweater with his sleeves rolled up, was on his knees on the rug, chasing her with a plush bear, laughing like a man who had forgotten what darkness ever felt like.

"I’m going to catch the sailboat captain!" Dominic growled playfully, tackling her gently onto a pile of plush pillows as Ellie shrieked with delight.

I sat on the window bench near the fireplace, nursing our two-month-old son, Gabriel, who was sleeping peacefully against my chest.

Rosa walked in from the kitchen, holding a tray of hot tea and fresh pastries, her face glowing as she watched Dominic play with little Ellie.

"Tea is ready, Miss Clara," Rosa smiled warmly.

"Thank you, Rosa," I said, handing Gabriel gently to Dominic as he walked over to the bench, wiping a happy tear from his eye.

Dominic sat beside me, holding our sleeping son in one arm while resting his other arm around my shoulders, pulling me close against his side. Ellie climbed onto the bench between us, cuddling up against my dress.

Through the grand floor-to-ceiling windows, the afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow across our home. Out on the front lawn, the bronze plaque of the Eleanor Rossi Foundation gleamed in the sunlight, welcoming young women into a haven of safety, hope, and new beginnings.

I looked at my husband, at my beautiful children, and at the home we had built together out of the ashes of betrayal.

My father had put a three-million-dollar price tag on my life because he believed I was damaged goods. He thought he was selling away a burden.

He didn't realize that in trying to destroy me, he had set me free to find my real strength, my real purpose, and a love that was truly priceless.

Dominic kissed my forehead softly as the golden sunset filled the room.

"Home," Dominic whispered gently against my skin.

"Home," I agreed, closing my eyes, completely, perfectly at peace.
