📖 CHAPTER 7: THE MAN WHO WAS STILL BREATHING

Daniel was not dead.

That was the problem.

Men like him rarely were.

They just stopped being visible.

But in the quiet corners of the city — places where erased men gather — Daniel still existed.

Not as a husband.

Not as a businessman.

But as something stripped down.

A name without a system behind it.

THE FIRST WEEK OF NOTHING

He woke up in a cheap apartment that had no mirrors he liked looking into.

His phone didn’t work.

His cards were declined.

His emails bounced.

At first, he laughed.

“This is temporary,” he told himself.

But by day three, laughter stopped.

By day five, hunger replaced arrogance.

By day seven, he understood the first truth of being erased:

The world does not argue with silence.

It replaces you.

THE ONLY MESSAGE THAT CAME THROUGH

On the eighth day, a single envelope arrived.

No return address.

Inside:

A printed frame from the porch camera footage.

Him.

Smiling.

Her.

Frozen in snow.

Below it, one line:

“You were never invisible. You were just unchallenged.”

Daniel stared at it for a long time.

Then tore it apart.

May you like

But paper doesn’t erase memory.

Only illusion.
