Chapter 10 - The Morning Sun

It was a crisp, beautiful Sunday morning in early autumn.

I woke up at 7:00 AM to the soft sound of birds chirping outside my master bedroom window. Sunlight streamed through the sheer white curtains, illuminating the peaceful, elegant sanctuary of my home.

I walked downstairs into my kitchen.

The room was warm, clean, and filled with light. Fresh flowers sat in a ceramic vase on the wide oak island.

I turned on the coffee machine, selecting a rich, fragrant bean that I personally loved. As the coffee brewed, filling the air with its dark, comforting aroma, I opened the French doors leading out to the patio.

The rain from the night before had stopped, leaving delicate droplets glistening like diamonds on the emerald grass.

I poured myself a fresh cup of coffee, stepped out onto the porch, and took a deep, luxurious breath of the clean morning air.

There were no cameras hidden under sink cabinets. No recordings waiting to be played. No fear lingering in the hallways. No cold, arrogant voices demanding obedience.

My phone rang softly from the kitchen counter. I walked back inside and picked it up.

It was a text message from Arthur Hayes, attaching a photo of the morning financial press: Bennett Logistics Named Top Regional Enterprise of the Year.

I smiled, setting the phone down without replying immediately.

I took a slow, delicious sip of my warm coffee, feeling its rich warmth spread through me.

I had cooked a feast on that long-ago October morning to trap a coward and destroy a house built on lies. But today, in my own home, on my own terms, I was finally sitting down to enjoy the life I had built with my own hands.

The sun rose higher into the blue sky, casting a golden glow across the peaceful room, and for the first time in my life, I knew that I was completely, beautifully free.
