Chapter 5 - The Trap Springs Shut

Judge Hamilton walked into the center of the room, her presence cold, formidable, and completely intimidating.

Evelyn gasped, stepping back until her heels hit the entrance wall.

“Mr. Collins,” Judge Hamilton said, her voice sounding like grinding granite. “I was requested by Ms. Vance’s counsel to observe this interaction personally under an emergency court order regarding parental harassment.”

“Judge... Judge Hamilton,” Ryan stammered, his hands shaking violently as he tried to pick his phone off the floor. “This... this is a misunderstanding! I was just coming to see my children! She’s keeping them from me!”

“We have sixty hours of audio recordings of you and your mother, Mr. Collins,” Arthur Pendelton chimed in smoothly, stepping forward with a tablet. “Including the conversation you had at the highway diner two hours ago, where your mother explicitly stated—and I quote: ‘If we push for joint custody... you can demand hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in child support and alimony.’”

Arthur pressed play on the tablet.

Evelyn’s sharp, greedy voice echoed through the luxury suite, clear as glass:

“We’ll go to her hotel today. We’ll bring a camera. We’ll provoke her into a rage in front of witnesses, record her breaking down, and take it straight to the family court judge tomorrow morning!”

Evelyn squeaked like a stepped-on mouse, covering her mouth with both hands, her face flushed with total, unmitigated horror.

Judge Hamilton shook her head, her expression turning into one of profound disdain.

“Attempting to weaponize medical conditions, postpartum vulnerability, and fraudulent child welfare claims to execute financial extortion,” Judge Hamilton said, her eyes pinning Ryan to the floor. “In my forty years on the bench, I have rarely seen a more despicable display of parental misconduct.”

She turned to Arthur Pendelton.

“I am signing the permanent restraining order immediately,” Judge Hamilton declared. “Mr. Collins is granted zero visitation rights pending a mandatory six-month psychiatric evaluation and drug screening. Furthermore, due to the clear intent of financial extortion documented here, I am recommending a formal criminal investigation into both Mr. Collins and Mrs. Evelyn Collins for attempted fraud and harassment.”

“No!” Evelyn shrieked, falling to her knees on the rug, grabbing Judge Hamilton’s coat sleeve. “Please, Your Honor! I’m a grandmother! I didn't mean it! Ryan made me do it! It was all Ryan’s idea!”

“Mom!” Ryan screamed, looking at his mother in absolute betrayal. “You came up with the plan in the diner!”

“Get off me, you vile woman,” Judge Hamilton snapped, pulling her coat away from Evelyn’s grasping fingers.

Marcus stepped forward, taking Ryan and Evelyn by their shoulders, spinning them around with effortless force.

“Out,” Marcus said simply.

As they were dragged out into the hallway, screaming, arguing, and blaming each other in front of the hotel staff, I stood by the fireplace, sipping my tea, watching the doors close for the final time.

The parasites had finally been removed.
