Chapter 7 - The Cousin’s Treason

The silence inside the grand sanctuary went dead and heavy.
Dominic Moretti—Lorenzo’s younger cousin, his second-in-command, the man who managed the syndicate’s daily operations and sat at his right hand during every council meeting.
“Dominic?” Geno whispered, his jaw dropping in absolute disbelief. “Boss... Dominic has been with you since the beginning. He helped build the port network.”
“He helped build it so he could sell it,” Lorenzo growled, turning the pages of the notebook.
The notebook contained meticulous dates, meeting logs, and offshore transaction records detailing how Dominic had been secretly partnering with Julian Vance for over two years.
Dominic was the one who had introduced Valentina to Lorenzo six months ago, orchestrating the fake peace treaty and recommending the marriage to solidify the family’s future.
Dominic had planned the entire trap. He was going to let Valentina marry Lorenzo, execute Lorenzo three months later, frame the Ricci family for the murder, and then assume total control of the Moretti empire with Julian Vance as his hidden silent partner.
“He thought I would sign the prenuptial trust next week without reading the fine print,” Lorenzo said, his dark eyes ablaze with an incredible, lethal fire.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the front of the chapel were kicked open with a thunderous bang.
The cold night air rushed into the sanctuary, carrying the roar of heavy rain and the sound of multiple footsteps echoing across the marble floor.
Flashlights cut through the darkness, their bright white beams sweeping across the wooden pews toward the altar.
Standing in the center aisle, holding an assault rifle, flanked by ten heavily armed mercenaries in black tactical gear, was Dominic Moretti.

Beside him stood Julian Vance.
“You always were too fond of that old chapel, Lorenzo,” Dominic’s voice echoed arrogantly through the high stone arches.
