Chapter 10 - The Sovereign’s Vow

Lorenzo reached out, taking my hand in his. His thumb stroked the back of my hand, his touch sending a deep, comforting warmth straight to my heart.
“You came into this house eleven months ago as a maid,” Lorenzo said, his voice deep, gravelly, and rich with genuine emotion. “You cleaned rooms, you delivered tea, and you kept your head down because you were trying to protect your daughter in a world that hadn't been kind to you.”
I swallowed hard, looking at our joined hands.
“And last night,” Lorenzo continued, stepping closer until his chest was inches from mine, “when a powerful woman threatened everything you loved, you didn't run. You stood your ground, you protected my family’s legacy, and you gave me back my home.”
“Lorenzo...” I whispered, my voice trembling slightly.
Lorenzo pulled a small wooden box from his pocket—the polished mahogany box from St. Jude’s Chapel.
He opened the lid.
Inside lay a breathtaking ring—a brilliant, cushion-cut emerald surrounded by delicate pavé diamonds, glowing softly in the morning sun.
“This ring belonged to my grandmother,” Lorenzo said softly. “It was meant for the woman who would stand beside the head of the Moretti family—not as a political pawn, not as a contract, but as a true sovereign.”
He looked directly into my eyes, his face completely devoid of the cold killer mask, showing only the fierce, unyielding devotion of a man who had found his true anchor.
“I don't want a fiancée who lies to me, Sophia,” Lorenzo said. “I want a woman who has the courage to stand beside me in the storm. I want you to be my wife. I want to be a father to Lena, and I want to give you both a life where nobody will ever threaten you again.”
Tears of pure, beautiful joy filled my eyes, spilling over my eyelashes down my cheeks.
I looked at the ring, then at the man who had sheltered my daughter in the rain, who had fought through a church full of mercenaries to keep us safe, and who was now holding out his heart to me.
“Yes,” I whispered, stepping into his arms. “Yes, Lorenzo. I will marry you.”

Lorenzo pulled me close, wrapping his heavy, warm arms around my waist, lifting me slightly off the ground as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our future forever.
Below the terrace, Lena looked up, clapping her tiny hands happily as the golden retriever barked around her feet.
