Chapter 6 - The Confrontation

Victoria was sitting in the dining room, sipping black coffee, when Ethan walked in. She had spent the night thinking of how to spin the situation, confident that her husband’s love for her and fear of her father would keep him in line.
“Ethan,” she said, standing up with an apologetic smile. “We need to talk. I realize I was a bit harsh yesterday, but we really need to find a better facility for your mother. She’s just not suited for our lifestyle—”
Ethan threw a thick legal folder onto the glass dining table.
Beside it, he placed an iPad. He tapped the screen, and the video of Victoria pouring dirty water over Margaret’s head began to play.
Victoria’s breath hitched. Her coffee cup rattled against the saucer.
“Where did you get this?” she whispered, her eyes wide with panic. “The security team... they said they deleted it!”
“The security team works for me, Victoria. Everything in this house, everything in your life, was paid for by me,” Ethan said, sitting opposite her. “You thought you were marrying a naive boy who would let you walk all over his family. You forgot that I built a billion-dollar empire from nothing. You think you’re a predator? You’re just a parasite that made the mistake of biting the wrong host.”
“Ethan, please! I was stressed! Your mother was always judging me!” Victoria cried, reaching across the table to grab his hand.
Ethan pulled his hand back as if she were a leper. “Do not touch me.”
“You can’t divorce me!” Victoria screamed, her elegant facade completely vanishing, replaced by a ugly, desperate rage. “Our prenuptial agreement states that if we divorce, I get fifty percent of your real estate holdings! My father will destroy your company!”
Ethan let out a dry, humorless laugh. “Your father is currently being investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee and the FBI for campaign finance fraud. I’ve leaked the ledger of the shell companies he used to hide his bribes. By this afternoon, he won’t have the power to help you get a parking ticket, let alone fight me.”
Victoria stared at him, horror dawning on her. “No... no, that’s impossible. My father is untouchable!”
“Nobody is untouchable,” Ethan said. “As for our prenup... there is a clause. Section 14: Gross Moral Turpitude and Criminal Activity. If either party commits a felony during the marriage, the agreement is null and void, and the offending party leaves with absolutely nothing.”
“I didn’t commit a felony!” she shrieked.
At that moment, the grand front doors of the mansion were pushed open. Detective Harris and three uniformed officers walked into the dining room.
“Victoria Cole?” Detective Harris asked, holding up a pair of handcuffs. “You are under arrest for felony elder abuse, assault, and unlawful confinement.”

Victoria backed away, screaming. “Get away from me! Ethan, stop them! You can’t do this to me! I am Victoria Vance!”
“Not anymore,” Ethan said coldly as the officers grabbed her arms and clicked the handcuffs into place. “Now, you’re just a criminal.”
