Chapter 6 - The Counter-Strike

At 3:00 p.m., the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel was packed to capacity with financial journalists, culinary press, and local news crews.

When Olivia walked onto the stage accompanied by Sarah Vance and Arthur Harrison, the room erupted into a flash of camera lights and overlapping questions.

"Chef Parker! Is it true you abandoned your family?!"

"Are you suing your father out of revenge?!"

"What is your response to your father's public appeal for reconciliation?!"

Olivia stepped up to the podium. She didn't use notes. She looked directly into the lenses of the cameras broadcasting live across the state.

"Two weeks ago," Olivia began, her voice steady and resonant, "my father told the public that my only value to our family was cooking and cleaning. He told me those exact words in a text message at 9:47 p.m. on the eve of my brother's corporate dinner."

She tapped a button on the podium podium remote, and a massive projection screen behind her illuminated.

On the screen hung high-resolution images of the text messages from Richard and Eleanor:

“Your brother’s boss will be here tomorrow. Cook, clean, and don’t embarrass us.” “It’s the only value you bring to this family.”

The room went completely silent as journalists scrambled to take photos of the screen.

"For years," Olivia continued, "I remained quiet because I believed that family loyalty was absolute. I worked eighty hours a week maintaining our family's assets while my brother was given titles, salaries, and credit lines he never earned. But true family loyalty is not built on exploitation, abuse, and theft."

Olivia clicked the remote again.

The screen shifted to reveal certified bank ledger statements, highlighting the eight hundred thousand dollars transferred from Edward Parker’s medical trust into Ryan Parker’s private accounts.

A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom.

"My father claims I am trying to destroy my family's legacy," Olivia stated firmly. "The truth is, my father destroyed that legacy years ago through fraud and greed. I am simply claiming what my grandfather left to me so I can build something honest."

Sarah Vance stepped up to the microphone. "As of two p.m. today, the State Attorney General’s office has formally issued an indictment against Richard Parker for grand larceny, falsification of probate documents, and corporate tax fraud. All assets under his control have been placed under federal receivership."

The reporters exploded into a frenzy of questions, but Olivia didn't stay to answer them. She stepped away from the podium, took Arthur Harrison’s offered arm, and walked off the stage with her head held high.

Outside the hotel, Richard Parker watched the live broadcast from the back seat of his lawyer's car.

His phone began ringing relentlessly—banks calling in loans, clients terminating contracts, and the District Attorney's office demanding his immediate surrender.

Richard slumped back against the leather seat, his face pale, realizing that the daughter he had treated like worthless dirt had just completely dismantled his empire.
