Chapter 7 - The Downfall

The boardroom was dead silent. The remaining board members sat frozen in their chairs, staring in utter shock at the confrontation unfolding before them.

I raised my hand, and Arthur stepped forward, connecting a secure flash drive into the boardroom's central AV system.

The fifty-foot digital projection wall behind David flickered to life.

Audio from the memory card echoed through the boardroom speakers—David and Maggie’s voices discussing the chemical cocktail, the offshore accounts in Zurich, and the plan to sell Owen to an asylum in Romania.

Simultaneously, high-definition documents appeared on the screen: bank statements showing Marcus Sterling and Eleanor Vance accepting three million Euros in bribe money from shell accounts linked to Dr. Keller.

Eleanor dropped into her chair, covering her face as she broke into hysterical sobs. Marcus Sterling looked wildly around the room, realization dawning on him that his career, his freedom, and his reputation were destroyed.

"David Hale," the lead U.S. Marshal declared, stepping forward and drawing a pair of heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, attempted poisoning, corporate fraud, and wire fraud."

David looked at the Marshals, then looked at me. The arrogant, charming smile he had worn for eight years was completely shattered, replaced by the pathetic, weeping face of a trapped coward.

"Adrianna... please!" David cried, dropping to his knees on the carpet, trying to reach out and grab the hem of my trousers. "I was forced into this! It was my mother! Maggie made me do it! She threatened me! Please, Adrianna, I love you!"

I stepped back, avoiding his touch as if he were a poisonous insect.

Owen took a step forward, looking down at the man who had terrorized him for years.

"You lied, Dad," Owen said, his voice ringing loud and clear through the boardroom speakers. "You told me Mom didn't love me. But she saved me from you."

David stared at his son, the boy he had dismissed as a mute simpleton, now standing as his ultimate accuser before the world.

The U.S. Marshals grabbed David by his arms, lifting him roughly from the floor, pulling his arms behind his back and snapping the steel cuffs onto his wrists.

"Take them all," I ordered, gesturing toward David, Marcus Sterling, and Eleanor Vance. "Every single person involved in this corruption will be removed from my building in handcuffs."

As the Marshals dragged David, screaming and weeping, out of the boardroom, the remaining honest members of the board stood up, breaking into a slow, respectful applause.

I turned to my son, lifting him into my arms, pressing a soft kiss against his forehead.

"It’s over, sweetie," I whispered. "They can never hurt us again."
