Chapter 10 - The Right Number

Two years later.

The summer afternoon sun cast golden light across the backyard of a magnificent waterfront home.

Laughter filled the air as family, friends, and colleagues gathered for a weekend barbecue. Marcus was near the grill, flipping burgers, while Mrs. Vance—now a director at the Pierce Family Foundation—sat on the patio enjoying a cold lemonade.

Out on the lawn, five-year-old Caden was kicking a soccer ball toward a small net, while Kira was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the green grass.

Near the garden arbor, Nathan stood with his arms wrapped around Amara's waist, his chin resting gently on her shoulder as they watched their children play.

Amara looked radiant, her hand resting on her belly, which was softly rounded with their expected baby girl.

"What are you thinking about?" Amara asked, turning her head to kiss his cheek.

"I was thinking about probability," Nathan chuckled softly, pulling her closer against his chest. "The odds of a three-year-old girl misdialing an old cordless phone, hitting seven random digits, and reaching my private office line in a city of two million people."

"It wasn't probability, Nathan," Amara smiled, turning around in his arms and looping her hands around his neck. "It was a miracle."

Suddenly, Kira came running over, her cheeks flushed red, holding an old toy telephone. She held the plastic receiver up to Nathan's ear.

"Daddy, answer it!" Kira giggled. "Someone is on the line!"

Nathan took the plastic phone, holding it to his ear with a serious, executive expression. "Hello? Pierce residence."

Kira giggled loudly. "Who is it, Daddy?"

Nathan looked at Amara, his heart full, his life complete, seeing the endless warmth and love reflecting in her eyes.

"It's our future, sweetheart," Nathan said softly, pulling his daughter and wife into a tight, warm hug. "And I'm never hanging up."
