Chapter 10 - THE HOUSE OF LIGHT

Three years later.
Spring had returned to the Duca estate.
The grand stone mansion was no longer a cold, silent fortress of shadows. The windows were open, allowing the warm ocean breeze to blow through rooms filled with music, fresh flowers, and the scent of home-cooked meals.
Out on the expansive green lawn, nine-year-old Lucas was kickboxing with Daniel, practicing his martial arts forms under the watchful eye of his father. Lucas was tall, healthy, and athletic, his cheeks full of life and vigor.
Sitting on a blanket under a massive oak tree was Clara, looking radiant and serene.
Beside her was six-year-old Emma, who was busily drawing pictures with colored markers in a sketchpad.
And resting in a white wicker bassinet beside Clara was a six-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright green eyes—little Marcus Duca, named in honor of hope and new beginnings.
Lorenzo walked over from the lawn, wiping sweat from his forehead with a towel. He was wearing a simple dark t-shirt and jeans, completely relaxed.
He sat down on the blanket beside Clara, leaning over to kiss her cheek, then gently reaching down to tickle baby Marcus’s tiny tummy. The baby let out a delighted, gurgling laugh.
“How’s the martial artist?” Clara asked, smiling as she handed Lorenzo a cold glass of lemonade.
“He’s getting faster than Daniel,” Lorenzo chuckled, taking a sip. “In a few years, he’ll be running the security team.”
Emma looked up from her sketchpad, holding up her drawing proudly.
“Look, Uncle Lorenzo!” Emma beamed. “I drew our family!”
Lorenzo took the drawing. It showed a big stone house surrounded by bright yellow suns, green grass, and five figures holding hands: Lorenzo, Clara, Lucas, Emma, and baby Marcus. In the corner of the paper, Emma had drawn a tiny cloth doll with wild yarn hair.
Lorenzo looked at the drawing, then at his beautiful wife, his healthy children, and the peaceful sky above his home.
He remembered the rain-heavy Tuesday night four years ago. He remembered finding a terrified three-year-old girl sitting outside his study door at 11:47 PM, holding a cloth doll and a tiny packet of poison sewn inside a pillow.
That night, he thought he was a father losing his only son.
He didn't know that God was sending him an angel in a flower-print nightgown to save his son, heal his heart, and give him the family he had always dreamed of.
Lorenzo pulled Clara close to his side, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as Emma climbed onto his lap.
“It’s beautiful, Emma,” Lorenzo said, kissing the top of the little girl’s head. “It’s the most beautiful picture in the world.”

And as the golden afternoon sun settled over the Duca estate, filled with the sounds of children’s laughter and unshakeable love, the family lived in peace, knowing that light had finally conquered the dark forever.
