Chapter 9 - THE LEGACY RESTORED

Six months later.

The Grand Cathedral in the center of the city was filled to capacity with over five hundred guests.

The heavy mahogany pews were lined with white orchids and silver ribbons. Sunlight streamed through the high stained-glass windows, painting the aisle in brilliant hues of blue, ruby, and gold.

It was the wedding of Lorenzo Duca and Clara Carter.

It was not a traditional mafia wedding of forced alliances and tense politics. The Commission leaders, city officials, and business partners present were there not out of fear, but out of genuine respect for the man who had brought peace and legitimacy to the region.

At the altar stood Lorenzo, looking exceptionally handsome in a midnight-blue tuxedo. Beside him as his best man was six-year-old Lucas, wearing a matching mini-tuxedo, looking healthy, strong, and proud.

The heavy church organ began to play a grand, soaring march.

The double doors at the back of the cathedral opened.

Walking down the aisle as the flower girl was little Emma, wearing a puffy white dress and a crown of daisy flowers in her hair. She carried a woven basket, happily tossing pink rose petals onto the red carpet—occasionally stopping to wave at Daniel, who sat in the front row wiping a tear from his eye.

Behind Emma walked Clara.

She was breathtaking. Her white lace gown flowed elegantly behind her, her long dark hair styled in soft waves adorned with small pearls. She held a bouquet of white lilies and fresh greenery.

As Clara walked down the aisle, her eyes locked onto Lorenzo’s.

Lorenzo felt a surge of pride and love so powerful it almost knocked him off his feet.

When Clara reached the altar, Lorenzo stepped forward, taking her hand gently from her uncle, who had walked her down the aisle.

The Archbishop smiled at the couple, lifting his hands in blessing.

“Dearly beloved,” the Archbishop’s voice echoed through the vast cathedral. “We are gathered here today in the sight of God to unite this man and this woman in holy matrimony...”

The ceremony was brief, beautiful, and filled with deep sincerity.

When the time came for the vows, Lorenzo looked into Clara’s eyes, his voice steady and clear.

“Clara, I give you my heart, my protection, and my life,” Lorenzo vowed. “I promise to honor you, to love your daughter as my own, and to build a home where fear can never enter.”

Clara smiled, her voice clear as crystal. “Lorenzo, I give you my love, my trust, and my future. I promise to stand by your side, to care for our children, and to fill our days with light.”

“By the power vested in me,” the Archbishop announced, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Lorenzo pulled Clara into his arms, kissing her with a fierce, tender passion that drew loud applause from the congregation.

Lucas and Emma hugged each other’s knees at the altar, cheering loudly.

As the newly married couple walked back down the aisle hand-in-hand, holding their two children, the heavy cathedral bells began to ring across the city—a joyful peal declaring that the dark days of the Duca family were finally over.
