Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary

One year later.
The rolling green hills of Upstate New York glistened under a brilliant autumn sun. Dozens of rescued dogs ran freely across fenced paddocks, barking happily alongside children and volunteers.
In the center of the estate stood a beautiful stone house surrounded by blooming flower gardens.
Today, a small, elegant wooden pavilion had been erected on the lawn. White satin ribbons fluttered in the warm mountain breeze, and string quartet music floated through the air.
Damien Ashworth stood at the altar under a canopy of white roses, wearing a tailored black tuxedo. Beside him stood Viktor, dressed in his finest suit, smiling proudly.
The music shifted into a slow, breathtaking melody.
Trotting down the grassy aisle first was Titan. The massive mastiff wore a custom silk bow tie around his heavy neck, proudly carrying a small velvet pillow in his mouth with two gold rings tied securely to it. The crowd chuckled fondly as Titan walked up to Damien, nudging his knee before sitting proudly beside Viktor.
Then, Briar appeared.
She looked angelic in an off-the-shoulder gown of delicate lace, her hair styled in soft waves adorned with wild orchids. She held a bouquet of sunflowers and baby's breath, her face glowing with radiant, breathtaking joy.
As she reached the altar, Damien took her hands into his. His hands—once known only for violence and power—were infinitely gentle as he stroked her fingers.
"A year ago," Damien spoke, his deep voice carrying over the quiet lawn, "I was a man living in the dark, watching my world die. Then a brave girl walked into my life, sat on my floor, and taught a broken beast how to love again. You saved Titan, Briar. But most of all, you saved me."
Tears streamed down Briar's cheeks as she smiled up at him.
"I used to think my life was defined by the walls I built to hide from the world," Briar whispered softly. "Until you pulled me into the light. You are my protector, my best friend, and my home."
"By the power vested in me," the officiant smiled, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Damien didn't hesitate. He pulled Briar into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her with deep, passionate devotion. The crowd erupted into joyous applause, and Titan let out a thunderous, happy bark that echoed across the hills.

As the sun began to set, casting golden light over the sanctuary, Damien and Briar walked hand-in-hand through the green fields, Titan trotting happily at their side.
The darkness was finally gone. They had found their forever home.
