Chapter 10 - The Garden of Light

One year later.

The summer sun shone bright and hot over the coastal cliffs of Manchester-by-the-Sea.

The manicured lawns of the Vale estate had been transformed into a breathtaking, colorful wonderland. Thousands of white gardenias, orange marigolds, purple lavender, and pink peonies covered the sweeping grounds, cascading down the stone terraces toward the sparkling blue ocean.

A long white carpet stretched from the grand terrace out toward a floral arch overlooking the sea.

Music filled the sweet-scented air—a gentle cello playing a romantic, sweeping melody.

At the front of the altar stood Adrian Vale.

He wore a tailored black tuxedo with a single white gardenia pinned to his lapel. He looked regal, imposing, and radiant with happiness. Standing beside him as his best woman was six-year-old Lily, wearing a miniature white gown, holding a basket of rose petals, smiling and waving to the guests in the pews.

The music shifted to the majestic notes of the bridal march.

The grand glass doors of the conservatory opened.

Clara stepped onto the carpet, holding her uncle's arm.

She was a vision of breathtaking beauty. Her gown was made of flowing ivory lace, draped effortlessly over her figure, decorated with tiny embroidered wildflowers along the train. Her brown hair was styled into an elegant crown of live white jasmine and delicate greenery. She carried a simple bouquet of wild peonies and gardenias—the very flowers that had brought her to this house two years ago.

As she walked down the aisle, her eyes locked onto Adrian’s.

Adrian watched her approach, tears glistening in his dark eyes. He remembered the day he had watched her through a security camera—a messy delivery girl sitting on his daughter's rug, arranging flowers into stars. He had thought she was a threat. He had thought she was a trap.

He had put cameras everywhere to save his daughter from the world... never realizing that the flower girl was coming to save him from the darkness locked inside his own heart.

Clara reached the altar. Adrian took her hand, his long fingers locking tightly with hers.

"You took your time," Adrian whispered playfully, wiping a tear from his eye.

"Traffic on the Tobin Bridge," Clara whispered back with a radiant, beautiful smile.

The marriage officiant stepped forward, his voice echoing across the ocean cliffs.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of family and friends to celebrate the union of Adrian and Clara. A love that did not begin in calm waters, but was forged in the fire of courage, healed by grace, and blooming in truth."

When it came time for the vows, Adrian looked down at Clara, his voice steady and deeply emotional.

"Clara," Adrian said, placing the gold band on her ring finger. "I built an empire out of concrete and fear because I believed love was a weakness that could be destroyed. You walked into my fortress with a basket of flowers and showed me that love is the only thing strong enough to survive the dark. I promise to honor you, protect you, and cherish you for every second of my life."

Clara smiled through her tears, placing her ring on his finger. "Adrian. I entered your house expecting a cold monster, and I found a father who would tear down the world for his child. You gave me a home, a daughter, and a love deeper than the sea. I promise to stand by your side through every storm, every winter, and every spring."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Adrian, you may kiss your bride!"

Adrian pulled Clara into his arms, dipping her back slightly as he kissed her with all the love, passion, and devotion in his soul.

The entire crowd erupted into joyful, thunderous applause.

Lily shrieked with delight, tossing her rose petals high into the air, jumping up to wrap her arms around both of her parents.

Hand in hand, Adrian, Clara, and Lily turned toward their family and friends, walking down the sunlit aisle together.

The security cameras were gone. The fortress was gone.

In their place stood a real home—surrounded by flowers, filled with laughter, and bathed in everlasting light.
