Chapter 8 - The Dinosaur Museum

The autumn air in Central Park was crisp and filled with the scent of roasted chestnuts.

Parker walked between Robert and Catherine, holding both of their hands. He was wearing his favorite green jacket, swinging his arms happily. A few paces ahead of them ran Maya, wearing a warm brand-new coat, laughing as she pointed at a street performer juggling torches.

"Look, Dad! Velociraptor!" Parker shouted, pulling Robert toward a large poster outside the American Museum of Natural History.

"Actually, buddy," Robert laughed, pulling his son up into a big hug and resting him on his shoulder, "according to recent fossil discoveries, the velociraptor was actually much smaller than the movies show, and it had feathers."

Parker’s eyes widened in absolute shock. "You know about the feathers?!"

Catherine laughed softly, her eyes warm as she looked at Robert. The bitterness that had lingered between them for three years had dissolved into a quiet, comfortable respect. They were no longer a broken family; they were a new kind of family—one built on presence instead of absence.

They spent three hours wandering through the cavernous halls of the museum. Robert didn't check his phone once. He had left it inside his coat pocket on silent. For the first time in twenty years, the ticker tape running through his head was completely silent.

He watched Parker and Maya run around the massive Diplodocus skeleton, arguing animatedly about which dinosaur would win in a race.

Elena stood beside Robert, holding two cups of warm apple cider.

"He looks happy," Elena said quietly, looking at Parker.

"He is," Robert replied, taking a sip of the cider. "We both are."
