Chapter 10 - The Quiet Shore

Late that evening, after the music, dancing, and grand fireworks display over the ocean had quieted down, the estate settled into a serene, beautiful night.

Full moonlight illuminated the rolling waves of the Atlantic, casting shimmering ribbons of silver across the water.

In the master bedroom of the main manor, four-year-old Milo lay sound asleep in his large, comfortable bed, his plush velvet rabbit tucked safely under his arm, breathing softly and peacefully.

Out on the wide wooden balcony overlooking the sea, Claire stood wearing a soft silk robe, leaning against the railing, sipping a cup of warm chamomile tea, listening to the soothing rhythm of the ocean tide.

Warm, strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

Nico pulled her back against his broad chest, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder, breathing in the sweet scent of white orchids and vanilla from her hair.

"Is the little dragon asleep?" Nico whispered gently into her ear.

"Out cold," Claire smiled, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "He ran around the lawn for five hours straight. He told me he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up."

Nico chuckled softly, pressing a tender kiss against the side of her neck. "A firefighter sounds like a fine profession for a Falcone."

They stood together in quiet solace for a long time, watching the silver moonlight dance across the dark water.

Claire reached down, covering Nico’s large hands where they rested over her stomach. She felt the gold band on his finger—a permanent, unshakeable symbol of the life they had built out of the ashes of their past.

"Two years ago," Claire murmured softly, "I sat in a cold hospital hallway at 4:00 a.m. thinking my life was over."

Nico turned her around gently in his arms, wrapping his robe around her to shield her from the cool ocean breeze. He looked down into her beautiful, shining brown eyes with an absolute, unshakeable love.

"And tonight?" Nico asked softly.

Claire smiled—a bright, radiant expression that lit up the moonlit balcony—and lifted her face to kiss her husband under the starlit sky of Montauk.

"And tonight," Claire answered against his lips, "our life is just beginning."

The ocean waves rolled softly onto the white sand shore below, carrying away the old ghosts of the past, leaving only peace, love, and a future that would shine forever.
