Chapter 9 - The Legacy

Two years later. October 2028.

The autumn air was crisp and cool, painting the trees around the Moretti estate in brilliant hues of crimson, orange, and gold.

In the private family garden behind the conservatory, a small wooden bench sat under a grand oak tree.

I sat on the bench, wrapped in a cozy cashmere sweater, holding a three-month-old baby boy wrapped in a sky-blue blanket.

Arthur Vincent Moretti—our son, named after Vincent's father and born into a world of peace, security, and love.

Beside me, six-year-old Lily was sitting on the grass, holding a small sketchbook and a box of crayons, meticulously drawing a picture of her baby brother, her golden retriever sitting faithfully beside her.

Footsteps crunched on the fallen autumn leaves.

Vincent walked down the stone path, wearing a comfortable sweater and slacks, holding two warm mugs of spiced apple cider.

He set the mugs down on the small iron table, sat beside me on the bench, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me and our newborn son close to his side.

He looked down at the sleeping baby, his heart full of a peace he had never known in his youth.

"How is the little Don?" Vincent asked quietly, reaching out a finger to gently stroke his son’s soft, chubby cheek.

"He just fell asleep," I smiled, resting my head against Vincent’s shoulder. "He has your eyes, Vincent."

"God help him then," Vincent chuckled softly, kissing the top of my head. "He’ll have to learn how to use them to protect his family."

Lily looked up from her drawing, holding her sketchbook up proudly. "Look, Mr. Vincent! I drew Arthur with Button!"

Vincent looked at the drawing—a colorful, sweet masterpiece showing a baby holding a cream-colored rabbit under a big oak tree.

"That is the finest piece of art in this entire house, Lily," Vincent said with absolute sincerity, reaching down to pat her head affectionately. "We are going to frame it and hang it in my main office."

Lily beamed with pride, returning to her coloring with happy chatter.

Vincent looked out over the quiet river, holding me tightly against his side. The crime wars were over. The Moretti business had been completely legitimized over the past two years, transitioning away from underworld syndicates and into legitimate international shipping, green energy, and global logistics.

There were no more shadows, no more secret coups, and no more blood on the marble floors.

"Do you ever regret it, Nora?" Vincent asked softly, looking down into my eyes.

"Regret what?"

"Regret staying that night? Regret stepping into my world?"

I looked into his pale gray eyes—the eyes of a man who had given my daughter a safe home, cleared my late husband’s name, transformed his own life for his family, and loved me with every fiber of his being.

I reached up, pressing my hand gently against his cheek.

"I didn't step into your world, Vincent," I whispered softly, a warm, loving smile gracing my lips. "We built a new one together."

May you like

Vincent smiled, leaning down to press a soft, sweet kiss onto my lips as our daughter laughed in the autumn sunshine and our son slept peacefully in my arms.

The unborn heir that once threatened to destroy an empire was replaced by a real family—bound not by corporate crime, fake pregnancies, or mafia contracts, but by an unshakeable, eternal love.
