Chapter 10 - The Garden of Roses

Six months later.

The cliffside gardens of the Sterling Estate were blanketed in brilliant sunshine. White satin ribbons fluttered from the iron chairs set up along the green lawn, where two hundred guests—friends, family, dockworkers, and staff—sat looking out over the blue waters of the ocean.

A string quartet played a soft, beautiful melody as the sun began its slow descent into the horizon, casting a warm golden light over the sea.

At the end of the white aisle stood Daniel, looking impossibly handsome in an immaculate charcoal tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the entrance of the garden. Beside him stood Lord Harrington as his best man, smiling proudly.

The music shifted to a sweet, soaring bridal march.

Emily stepped onto the white runner, holding a bouquet of fresh white roses and lavender.

She wore a breathtaking lace wedding dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline that proudly displayed the small, crescent-shaped silver birthmark on her left shoulder. Her dark hair cascaded in soft waves around her shoulders, and her amber eyes shone with an inner light that captivated every person in attendance.

Walking beside her, holding her arm with fierce, tearful pride, was Aunt Sarah.

As Emily reached the altar, Aunt Sarah kissed her cheek before handing her hand to Daniel.

Daniel took Emily’s hands into his own, his large fingers trembling slightly with pure emotion.

"You look breathtaking," he whispered softly.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Sterling," she teased gently back.

The minister smiled warmly, opening the leather ceremony book. "Friends, family, and loved ones. We are gathered here today to unite two souls who were brought together not by chance, but by truth, courage, and a love that survived the storm."

The vows were simple, heartfelt, and spoken with a deep, unbreakable conviction that echoed over the crashing waves below.

"I, Daniel Sterling, take you, Emily Dawson, to be my wedded wife," Daniel spoke, his voice clear and resonant. "To have and to hold, from this day forward, in sickness and in health, in wealth or in poverty, to love and to cherish, until death do us part."

"I, Emily Dawson, take you, Daniel Sterling, to be my wedded husband," Emily promised, tears of happiness glistening in her eyes. "To give you my heart, my trust, and my life, from this day forward and forevermore."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "Daniel, you may kiss your bride."

Daniel pulled Emily into his arms, dipping her slightly as his lips met hers in a passionate, lingering kiss that brought the entire gathering to their feet, cheering, clapping, and crying tears of joy.

As they walked back up the aisle together, hand in hand, white rose petals raining down around them, Emily looked up at her husband, then back toward the grand mansion that had once been her place of work, and now was her home.

The planted necklace, the cruel slap, the bitter lies—all of it had been used by fate to bring her to the place where she belonged.

She was no longer the trembling maid in the foyer.

She was Emily Sterling—loved, cherished, safe, and finally home.
