Chapter 9 - The Cornerstone Ceremony

A crisp autumn breeze swept across East 79th Street, carrying the bright, cheerful sounds of children laughing and playing on the newly opened Calloway Community Park in Queens—built directly on the land that Grace had fought so fiercely to protect.
The park was green, vibrant, and completely safe, featuring modern playgrounds, native trees, and a plaque dedicated to environmental integrity and public vigilance.
Ethan Calloway stood near the entrance of the park, wearing a simple navy blazer, watching the children run across the grass. He held two cups of coffee in his hands, steam rising gently into the cool morning air.
Footsteps approached behind him, light and familiar.
"You know, for a billionaire CEO, you spend an awful lot of time hanging around sanitation workers," a warm, teasing voice said.
Ethan turned with a smile, handing one of the cups to Grace Bennett. She wore her hair tied back in a simple ponytail, a light jacket thrown over her shoulders, her eyes bright and full of life.
"Only the ones who change the world before eight in the morning," Ethan replied, his gaze softening. "The city council officially approved your new municipal waste auditing protocol this morning."
Grace took a sip of her coffee, looking out over the bustling park where families strolled along the pathways. "It took a lot of paperwork. And one very messy recycling bin."
"Well," Ethan said, stepping a little closer, his smile turning warm and genuine, "I’d say fishing that paper out of the trash was the best thing that ever happened to both of us."

"Is that your official executive opinion, Mr. Calloway?" Grace asked, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
"My absolute professional guarantee," Ethan answered softly, as they walked side-by-side down the sunny park path into a bright, hard-fought future.
