Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

One year later.
The sun was shining brightly over the rolling green hills of the Hastings estate. The dark, stormy night of terror seemed like a distant memory, replaced by the sound of laughter and birds singing in the manicured gardens.
A massive white canopy tent was set up on the lawn overlooking the lake. Flowers—white roses and soft pink peonies—decorated every table. Hundreds of guests, including Chicago’s highest dignitaries, business leaders, and close friends, were gathered in celebration.
Inside the grand mansion, Rosa stood before a full-length mirror in a stunning, custom-designed lace wedding gown. Her dark hair was styled in an intricate updo, illuminated by a delicate diamond tiara.
A knock came at the door, and Margaret Whitaker walked in, holding a small velvet box.
“You look breathtaking, my dear,” Margaret said, tears shimmering in her eyes. “Elena would be so happy to see the family so whole.”
“Thank you, Margaret,” Rosa smiled, her heart full.
Margaret opened the box, revealing a gorgeous vintage pearl necklace. “This belonged to Adrien’s mother. He wanted you to wear it today.”
As Margaret helped her clasp the necklace, the door burst open, and five-year-old Mia came bouncing into the room.
Mia’s hair had grown back completely, flowing in shiny, beautiful dark curls down her back, secured with a matching silver ribbon. She was wearing a puffy flower-girl dress and holding a basket of rose petals.
“Mommy! Mommy!” Mia giggled. “Uncle—I mean, Daddy is waiting for you!”
Rosa kneeled down, kissing her daughter’s cheek. “Are you ready, my little princess?”
“I’m ready!” Mia cheered.
Moments later, the harp began to play a soft, romantic melody.
The heavy glass doors opened, and Rosa walked down the aisle on the arm of the estate’s head butler, who had become a father figure to her over the past year.
At the end of the aisle stood Adrien.
He was wearing a crisp, dark navy tuxedo, looking more handsome than ever. As he watched Rosa walk toward him, the powerful billionaire who had conquered the business world felt tears escape his eyes.
When Rosa reached the altar, Adrien took her hand, his thumb softly stroking her skin.
“You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen,” Adrien whispered.
The officiant smiled, addressing the crowd. “We are gathered here today to unite two souls who have faced darkness, overcome fear, and built a sanctuary of love and truth.”
After exchanging vows that brought half the guests to tears, the officiant declared:
“By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Adrien, you may kiss your bride.”
Adrien pulled Rosa into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a passionate, deep kiss that echoed with all the promises of their future.
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, throwing white rose petals into the air!
At the reception that evening, the sun began to set, painting the sky in gorgeous hues of gold, purple, and orange.
Adrien and Rosa stood on the grand marble balcony—the very balcony where they had stood a year ago during the darkest moments of their journey.
Adrien wrapped his arms around Rosa from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. Down on the lawn below, Mia was chasing fireflies with the other children, her joyful laughter echoing across the estate.
“What are you thinking about?” Rosa asked softly, leaning back into his warm chest.
“I’m thinking about the night of our engagement party,” Adrien murmured, smiling against her neck. “The night Vanessa cut Mia’s hair.”
Rosa turned around in his arms, resting her hands on his chest. “That was the worst night of my life.”
“It was,” Adrien agreed, looking into her eyes with endless devotion. “But it was also the night I found my sister’s daughter. And it was the night I found the love of my life.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silk handkerchief—the same handkerchief he had kept since that fateful night. Inside was still the small lock of Mia’s dark curls.
“I kept this to remind me of the truth,” Adrien said softly. “That out of cruelty, beauty can grow. Out of grief, a family can be reborn.”
Rosa smiled, her eyes brimming with happy tears. She leaned up and kissed his lips, warm and sweet.
“I love you, Adrien Hastings.”
