Chapter 6 - The New Dawn

A month had passed since the showdown in the library.
The Kensington mansion had undergone a quiet, beautiful transformation. The dark, heavy velvet drapes had been replaced with light, airy linen, and the grand foyer was now filled with the sound of children's music and laughter.
Julian and Sarah had fled to Spain, their reputation in London completely ruined by the quiet, surgical leaks Alexander had allowed to circulate in the financial districts. Evelyn remained in the Cotswolds, silent and defeated.
But in the West Wing, the real work was just beginning.
Every afternoon, Alexander would return home early from his office. He would strip off his suit jacket, roll up his sleeves, and join Grace and Iris on the thick, soft rug in the nursery.
"Come on, Iris," Alexander said, sitting a few feet away from his daughter, his arms open. "Show Daddy how strong you are."
Iris, now wearing soft leather shoes designed by a specialist Grace had found in London, stood up from her small chair. She looked at Grace, who was kneeling next to her, whispering words of encouragement.
"Go on, sweetheart," Grace smiled. "You can do it."
Iris took a step. Her balance was better now, her little knees no longer shaking as violently. She took three steps, then four, then five, and finally, with a triumphant squeal, she threw herself into Alexander’s arms.
Alexander caught her, spinning her around in the air as she laughed. Clara ran over, throwing her arms around his legs, and for the first time in years, the library was filled with the sound of a father’s laughter.
Grace watched them from the rug, her eyes bright with tears of joy. She began to stand up to leave them to their family moment, but Alexander reached out, his hand wrapping gently around her wrist.
"Don't go, Grace," he said quietly, his winter-blue eyes soft and warm as they locked onto hers.
Grace hesitated, her heart fluttering in her chest. "Mr. Whitmore... I should go check on dinner—"
"Let Mrs. Gable handle dinner," Alexander said, standing up and pulling her gently toward him. He was still holding Iris, who was now resting her head on his shoulder. "You are part of this family, Grace. You saved my daughter. And you saved me."
Grace looked at him, seeing the vulnerability and the deep, sincere warmth in his eyes. The cold billionaire she had met a year ago was gone, replaced by a man who had finally found his heart.

"Thank you, Alexander," she whispered, using his first name for the first time.
Alexander smiled, a genuine, beautiful smile that reached his eyes. "No, Grace. Thank you."
