📖 CHAPTER 4: THE FALL OF THE EMPIRE

The first shot was not heard.
It was felt.
A vibration through the mansion’s glass windows, subtle at first—like the world itself had exhaled too sharply.
Then the alarms followed.
Not the estate alarms Dominic trusted.
Those were silent.
These were different.
Internal.
Unauthorized.
His own system screaming at him from the inside.
Dominic stood in the study for half a second longer, still processing Sofia’s words.
“If you don’t choose soon… they will choose for you.”
Then everything broke.
Lena was the first to move.
“Down!” she shouted.
But Dominic didn’t need instructions.
His body already remembered war.
He grabbed Sofia and pulled her behind the reinforced desk just as the windows exploded inward in a rain of glass.
Not bullets.
Not yet.
Drones.
Black, compact, hovering like mechanical insects.
Scanning.
Locking.
Hunting.
Dominic’s voice was sharp.
“Security breach level?”
Lena didn’t answer immediately.
Because she was staring at something on her wrist device.
Her face went pale.
“…This isn’t external.”
Dominic turned sharply.
“What did you say?”
Lena swallowed.
“The override came from inside the estate network.”
A pause.
Then the truth hit like a blade:
“Someone here opened the gates.”
THE TRAITOR INSIDE THE WALLS
Gunfire erupted outside.
Not chaotic.
Controlled.
Professional.
Men moving through Dominic’s estate like they already owned it.
Sofia pressed into Dominic’s chest, trembling slightly.
Not crying.
Just listening.
Like she already understood this language.
Dominic lifted his head.
“Stay with her,” he ordered Lena.
“I’m going out.”
Lena grabbed his arm.
“Dominic—this is a trap.”
He looked at her.
His eyes were no longer confused.
Only sharp.
Only dangerous.
“It stopped being a trap the moment they entered my house.”
Then he moved.
THE GARDENS OF BLOOD
The back doors slammed open as Dominic stepped into the night air.
The garden—once pristine, silent, controlled—was now a battlefield.
Men in black tactical gear moved between hedges.
His men.
Or what used to be his men.
Dominic recognized one of them instantly.
Victor Hale.
Standing near the center.
Calm.
Unhurried.
Like he was waiting for Dominic to arrive.
Victor smiled.
“That’s a dangerous look on you, boss.”
Dominic didn’t raise his gun yet.
“You opened my gates.”
Victor shrugged slightly.
“I improved them.”
Behind Victor, Dominic saw something that made his blood turn colder.
A convoy.
Black SUVs.
And a single armored van.
The kind used for high-value extraction.
Human extraction.
Dominic’s voice dropped.
“Where is my daughter?”
Victor tilted his head.
“Which one?”
That was the moment Dominic moved.
He fired.
The shot hit the ground inches from Victor’s feet.
Not a warning.
A declaration.
Victor didn’t even flinch.
“You always were emotional when it came to family,” he said calmly.
Dominic stepped forward.
“If you touched her—”
“I didn’t,” Victor interrupted.
Then he smiled wider.
“Moretti did.”
Silence.
Even the gunfire in the distance seemed to hesitate.
SOFIA IS GONE
Inside the mansion, Lena was fighting through chaos.
Smoke filled the hallway.
Glass cracked underfoot.
She reached the study—
Empty.
Sofia was gone.
Only a small hair clip remained on the floor.
Lena froze.
Then whispered:
“No…”
THE DEAL THAT BROKE EVERYTHING
Outside, Dominic grabbed Victor by the collar and slammed him into a stone pillar.
“You think you can sell my child and walk away alive?”
Victor coughed but smiled through it.
“You still don’t understand what you are, Dominic.”
Dominic tightened his grip.
“Explain it to me.”
Victor’s voice dropped.
“You’re not the king of anything.”
“You’re the lock.”
A pause.
Then:
“And Isabella… was the key they couldn’t afford to lose.”
Dominic’s grip loosened slightly.
Victor continued.
“She didn’t die because they wanted her dead.”
“She died because she refused to unlock you.”
That word hit differently.
Unlock.
Dominic’s voice went low.
“Unlock what?”
Victor laughed softly.
“Everything.”
A distant engine roared.
The armored van began moving.
Dominic turned sharply.
“You’re not taking her.”
Victor shook his head.
“We already did.”
Then, almost gently:
“This was never a kidnapping.”
“It was retrieval.”
LENA’S SECRET
Inside the burning mansion corridors, Lena finally reached Dominic’s private vault.
The only place untouched.
Protected.
Sacred.
She hesitated.
Then entered the override code.
The door opened.
Inside—
A single encrypted drive.
And a sealed letter.
Her hands trembled as she opened it.
Isabella’s handwriting.
Only three lines:
“If you are reading this, then I am gone or hidden.”
“Do not let Dominic become what they built him to be.”
“Protect the children. They are not weapons… unless they believe they are.”
Lena closed her eyes.
And whispered:
“I’m sorry, Isabella.”
Then she made a call.
“One of them is gone,” she said.
A pause.
Then:
“Yes… both plans are now active.”
DOMINIC’S BREAKING POINT
Outside.
The convoy was leaving.
Dominic ran.
Not like a boss.
Not like a king.
Like a man who had finally lost control of everything he thought he owned.
Bullets tore past him.
He didn’t care.
Victor stood behind him.
“You can’t stop it now.”
Dominic turned.
His voice was quiet.
“What did you say?”
Victor’s expression changed slightly.
For the first time—
uncertainty.
“I said you can’t—”
Dominic shot him.
One bullet.
Clean.
Victor fell instantly.
No speech.
No final words.
Only silence.
Dominic looked at the convoy disappearing through the gates.
And then he said something softly to himself:
“This empire is over.”
THE FINAL TWIST OF CHAPTER 4
Inside the armored van.
Sofia sat quietly.
Not crying.
Not panicking.
Just watching the road disappear behind them.
A man across from her spoke softly.
“You’re not afraid?”
Sofia shook her head.
“No.”
The man frowned.
“Why?”
Sofia looked out the window.
And whispered:
“Because Mommy said… this is where Daddy remembers who he really is.”
Outside the convoy—
a second convoy appeared.
Black.
Silent.
Following.
Not Moretti’s.
May you like
Not Russo’s.
Something else entirely.
