Chapter 10 - The Recipe for Forever

Later that evening, after the bakery had closed and the sun had dipped below the Chicago skyline, Adrien led Lena up the private staircase to the third floor of the building.

The entire top floor had been converted into a breathtaking residential loft—complete with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, a massive professional kitchen, and a private rooftop garden filled with blooming orange trees and sweet-smelling herbs.

Lena stepped out onto the rooftop patio, looking at the glittering city lights stretching out toward Lake Michigan.

Adrien stepped behind her, wrapping his strong arms around her waist, pulling her back against his broad chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the sweet scent of her honey-scented hair.

"Do you like what we built here?" Adrien asked softly into her ear.

"It’s a dream, Adrien," Lena whispered, turning in his arms to face him, resting her hands against his chest. "I never imagined my life could look like this."

Adrien reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small mahogany box—the original recipe box, beautifully restored, its brass hinges polished to a brilliant gold shine.

He opened the lid.

Inside sat the original yellowed parchment containing Teresa Moretti's recipe. But sitting on top of the old paper was a new velvet box.

Adrien picked up the velvet box, set the mahogany chest on a nearby teak table, and sank down onto one knee before her on the garden terrace.

Lena gasped, covering her mouth with both hands, tears instantly welling in her eyes.

"Lena Hart," Adrien said, his voice thick with deep, unshakeable emotion. "You came into my life when I was searching for a memory of the past. But you gave me something infinitely better—you gave me a future. You showed me that a home isn't built out of walls or power, but out of love, peace, and the courage to protect what matters."

He opened the velvet box, revealing a breathtaking ring—a glowing yellow canary diamond surrounded by a halo of brilliant white stones, shaped like a stylized orange blossom.

"Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" Adrien asked, looking up at her with his whole heart in his eyes.

"Yes!" Lena cried out softly, dropping to her knees beside him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes, Adrien! A thousand times yes!"

Adrien laughed with pure joy, slipping the ring onto her finger before pulling her into a passionate, deep kiss beneath the starlight.

Below them, the city of Chicago hummed with life, but on that quiet rooftop garden, surrounded by the sweet scent of citrus and honey, two worlds had finally become one—bound forever by a secret recipe, a fierce love, and a peace that no force on earth could ever break.
