Chapter 8 - The Queen’s New Shoes
One month later.
The Moretti estate had been completely transformed. The dark, imposing atmosphere was replaced with warm sunlight, vibrant flower gardens, and the sound of children's laughter.
In the grand ballroom where the tragic gala had taken place, three hundred guests gathered once again.
This time, however, there were no gold-embroidered Parisian gowns or pretentious classical dance contests. The room was decorated with colorful balloons, pastel ribbons, and giant plates of cupcakes.
It was Emma’s fourth birthday party.
Sophia stood near the grand archway, wearing an exquisite champagne silk dress that complemented her radiant skin. She was no longer Sophia the maid—she was officially announced as the future Mrs. Moretti, overseeing the family's new charitable foundation for working mothers.
Aleandro walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"Happy?" he whispered gently into her ear.
"More than I ever thought possible," Sophia smiled, leaning back against his chest.
Across the ballroom floor, Emma was running in circles with a group of children from the local neighborhood whom Sophia had invited.
On her feet were a brand-new pair of glowing pink sneakers that lit up with every step she took. But halfway across the floor, Emma stopped, kicked her new shoes off, and left them neatly by a chair beside her stuffed rabbit.
Barefoot, she began to spin under the crystal chandeliers, her laughter filling the air.
Aleandro chuckled warmly, taking Sophia’s hand. "She really hates shoes, doesn't she?"
"She likes feeling the ground beneath her feet," Sophia smiled softly. "It reminds her of where she came from."

Aleandro pulled his wife and daughter close as Emma ran over, jumping into her father's arms.
The barefoot little girl who had once been mocked by the wealthy world had not only won the dance—she had brought light, truth, and love to the darkest empire in New York.
