Chapter 10 - THE MAGIC BREAD

The December rain was falling softly over Manhattan, just as it had six years ago.
The streets were lit with glowing holiday lights, red ribbons tied around streetlamps, and the smell of roasted chestnuts lingering in the crisp winter air.
A sleek black car pulled up to the curb on a quiet street in lower Manhattan.
The door opened, and Sebastian stepped out, holding a large black umbrella over the pavement. He reached back inside, taking Nadia’s hand as she stepped out, wearing a beautiful cream-colored maternity coat that softly accentuated the noticeable bump at her waist.
Behind them, three eight-year-olds scrambled out of the secondary car with their nanny.
Eli was wearing a small wool coat and carrying a notebook; Jasper had his hands tucked neatly into his pockets, observing the holiday decorations; and Maya was wearing a bright pink hat, holding her father's hand as soon as her feet hit the sidewalk.
"Where are we?" Eli asked, looking up at the warm yellow light spilling through the windows of the small building ahead.
Nadia looked up at the sign hanging above the green awning: THE OLIVE GARDEN BISTRO.
Tears of happy nostalgia filled her eyes as she looked at Sebastian.
"You booked the whole restaurant?" Nadia asked, smiling.
"I bought the building three months ago," Sebastian confessed with a crooked, boyish grin. "The owner wanted to retire. I told him he could only sell it to me if he kept the garlic bread recipe exactly the same."
Nadia laughed, a clear, beautiful sound that echoed over the quiet street.
They walked inside.
The restaurant was empty of other patrons, decorated with warm holiday fairy lights, green garlands, and a grand Christmas tree standing in the corner. The air was rich with the unforgettable, comforting aromas of garlic, rosemary, crushed tomatoes, and fresh, warm bread.
In the center of the room sat a long, beautifully decorated family table.
Sitting at the head of the table was Nadia’s father, Dr. Chen, looking healthy, happy, and proudly holding a glass of wine. Beside him were Victoria Vance and Jordan, both wearing festive holiday sweaters and laughing casually.
"Grandpa!" Maya squealed, running across the restaurant to jump into her grandfather’s open arms.
Sebastian helped Nadia off with her coat, kissing the side of her neck gently before hanging it up. He wrapped his arm around her waist, his hand resting lovingly over her baby bump.
"Another boy, the doctor said?" Dr. Chen asked warmly, walking over to embrace Sebastian with a strong, fatherly hug.
"A boy," Sebastian confirmed, looking down at Nadia with endless tenderness. "Though if he has half his mother’s strength, he’s going to rule the world."
The family gathered around the long table. Laughter, clinking glasses, and the warm, golden atmosphere filled the cozy bistro.
A waiter walked over, placing a massive, steaming basket of freshly baked garlic bread in the center of the table.
Maya immediately grabbed a piece, holding it up with both hands, just as she had done three years ago when a broken, lonely billionaire had walked through the door.
"Daddy!" Maya said proudly, holding the warm bread out to Sebastian. "It’s the magic kind!"
Sebastian looked at the small piece of bread. He looked at Maya’s bright, defenseless smile. He looked at Eli and Jasper arguing good-naturedly with their grandfather about chess strategies. And finally, he looked at Nadia—his wife, his love, his home—whose eyes were shining with total, unadulterated happiness.
Sebastian took the piece of bread. His hand was completely steady now.

"It really is magic, sweetie," Sebastian said softly, his voice full of profound, unbreakable peace. "It brought me back to where I belong."
Outside, the December rain continued to drift over the vast, towering grid of Manhattan. But inside the small bistro, wrapped in the warmth of garlic, bread, and unconditional love, the billionaire who had once forgotten how to breathe finally had everything he would ever need.
