Chapter 5 - THE SHOWDOWN AT ASHTON TOWER

The boardroom on the top floor of Ashton Tower was wrapped in glass, offering a panoramic view of the Manhattan financial district. At 8:00 AM, the room was filled with twelve of the most powerful corporate directors in the country.
At the head of the long mahogany table sat Vivienne Caldwell.
She was dressed impeccably in a cream Chanel suit, a three-strand pearl necklace resting against her collarbone. She looked serene, powerful, and utterly in control—the undisputed matriarch of a multi-billion-dollar empire.
"I find this emergency session entirely absurd," Vivienne said smoothly, gesturing with a manicured hand toward the empty chair at the opposite end of the table. "My son is clearly experiencing a personal crisis. Leaving the Hartwell acquisition meeting on Tuesday was an embarrassment, and this sudden lockdown of trust funds is nothing more than a temporary emotional outburst."
"Is it?" a deep voice echoed from the doorway.
The double doors swung open.
Sebastian walked in. He wore a tailored dark navy suit, crisp white shirt, and no tie. His expression was made of carved marble. Beside him walked Victoria Vance, carrying two heavy leather briefcases, followed by two officers from the New York State Attorney General’s Special Investigations Unit.
The boardroom went deathly quiet.
Vivienne’s eyes narrowed slightly, her posture stiffening, though her face remained an unreadable mask of aristocratic condescension.
"Sebastian," Vivienne said coldly. "What is the meaning of bringing police officers into my boardroom?"
"It’s not your boardroom anymore, Vivienne," Sebastian said quietly, taking his seat at the opposite end of the table.
He didn't call her 'Mother.' The dropped title hung in the cold air like a guillotine blade.
Victoria Vance stepped forward, opening the briefcases and distributing thick, bound dossiers to every single board member at the table.
"What you have in front of you," Victoria announced in a clear, resonant voice, "is comprehensive evidence of financial fraud, identity theft, corporate embezzlement, and illegal wiretapping committed by Vice Chairman Vivienne Caldwell over the past six years. She utilized company emergency slush funds to finance personal covert surveillance operations, forge legal documents, and bribe public officials."
Gasps erupted around the table. Board members began frantically flipping through the pages, their faces turning pale as they read the forensic bank traces and wiretap transcripts.
"This is ridiculous!" Vivienne snapped, her voice finally losing its composure, a sharp edge of panic breaking through her icy exterior. "This is a fabricated attempt by my son to stage a hostile coup! I demand—"
"You demand nothing," Sebastian interrupted. His voice wasn't loud, but it possessed a terrifying, heavy authority that silenced the entire room instantly.
He leaned forward, placing his hands flat on the polished wood.
"Five years ago, you forged my name," Sebastian said, his eyes locked onto hers with a burning intensity. "You forged my wife's signature. You threatened her father, bought off her landlord, and used my company’s resources to terrorize a twenty-five-year-old woman who was pregnant with my children."
The room collectively held its breath.
"Triplets," Sebastian added softly, every word laced with lethal precision. "My sons and my daughter. You kept them hidden in a tiny apartment fourteen blocks away while you sat here, sipping champagne and preaching about the 'Ashton legacy.'"
"They were a liability!" Vivienne hissed, her composure finally shattering completely, exposing the ugly, arrogant monster beneath. "She was a nobody! A middle-class gallery assistant with no family money and no social standing! She would have ruined you! She would have dragged this family into the mud!"
"She is worth ten of you," Sebastian said coldly.
He signaled to the two officers standing at the door.
"Vivienne Caldwell," the lead investigator said, stepping forward and pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for grand larceny, corporate fraud, and felony extortion. You have the right to remain silent—"
"Get your hands off me!" Vivienne shrieked as the officer grabbed her wrist. "Sebastian! You can't do this! I am your mother! I built you! I built everything you own!"
Sebastian stood up slowly. He adjusted his cuffs, never breaking eye contact with the woman who had ruined half a decade of his life.
"You built an empire out of glass and lies, Vivienne," Sebastian said, his voice flat and unyielding. "And today, it broke."
As the officers escorted a screaming, struggling Vivienne out of the boardroom—her pristine Chanel suit disheveled, her pearls catching the harsh fluorescence of the hallway—the board members sat in stunned, terrified silence.
Sebastian turned to the remaining directors.
"As of 8:15 AM, I am assuming total control of the Caldwell trust shares," Sebastian stated calmly. "The Hartwell acquisition is back on. All corporate assets linked to illicit surveillance will be liquidated, and fifty percent of the proceeds will be transferred into a private irrevocable trust for Eli, Jasper, and Maya Chen-Ashton."
He picked up his coat from the back of his chair.

"If any of you have a problem with this," Sebastian added, looking around the table, "my legal team will accept your resignations by noon."
Without waiting for a response, Sebastian turned and walked out of the room, leaving the empire behind him to rebuild the only thing that actually mattered.
