Chapter 10 - The Bright Horizon

One year later.
The Lincoln Park townhouse had been sold. Michael used the proceeds to purchase a beautiful, spacious home on the shores of Lake Michigan, far away from the dark memories of the past.
It was Ethan’s twelfth birthday.
The backyard was filled with decorations, blue balloons, and the sound of children laughing. Ethan’s classmates from his new school were running around the lawn, playing tag and eating hot dogs from the grill.
Michael stood by the patio grill, flipping burgers, wearing an apron that Ethan had painted for him that said #1 DAD.
Julian, Ethan's grandfather, sat in a lounge chair, smiling as he watched his grandson run across the grass, fast, free, and completely healthy.
Miss Ruth walked out of the kitchen carrying a massive, three-tiered chocolate birthday cake decorated with twelve glowing candles.
"Cake time!" Miss Ruth announced, her voice ringing clear over the yard.
The children cheered, rushing toward the large wooden picnic table. Ethan ran to the center, standing between his father and Miss Ruth.
"Make a wish, buddy," Michael whispered, leaning down beside his son.
Ethan looked at the bright candles flickering in the soft evening breeze. He looked at his father, whose eyes were filled with endless love and pride. He looked at Miss Ruth, who gave him a warm, reassuring nod. He looked at his friends, his grandfather, and the beautiful blue lake stretching out behind his new home.
He didn't need to wish for protection anymore. He didn't need to wish for someone to listen to him.
He was safe. He was heard. He was loved.
Ethan took a deep breath and blew out all twelve candles in one strong breath.
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause.
"What did you wish for, Ethan?" one of his friends asked.
Ethan smiled, wrapping his arm around his father’s waist and resting his head against Michael’s side.
"Nothing," Ethan said softly, looking up at the clear, starry sky. "I already have everything I need."
May you like
Michael pulled his son close, kissing the top of his head, while Miss Ruth cut the first slice of cake.
The nightmare was finally over. The storm had passed, leaving behind a clear, beautiful horizon—a future built on truth, courage, and an unbreakable love that no monster could ever tear apart.
