Chapter 4 - The Infiltration of CarePremier

By 2:00 p.m., William was sitting in a black suburban parked down the street from the glass-fronted offices of CarePremier Elite in Newton, an affluent suburb of Boston.

Beside him sat Thomas Cole, a former FBI special agent who now headed William’s private security firm. On the tablet between them was a complete financial audit of CarePremier Elite, pulled by William’s forensic accountants in less than six hours.

"It’s worse than simple negligence, Mr. Hart," Thomas said, tapping the screen, showing a complex web of wire transfers. "CarePremier Elite isn't just an agency slipping up on shift schedules. It’s a shell company."

William looked at the screen. "A shell company?"

"Seventy percent of the agency’s equity is held by a holding group registered in Delaware," Thomas explained. "And that holding group is controlled by a subsidiary of Vance Holdings—Marcus Vance’s private investment firm."

William’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched beneath his scar. The trap laid itself out before him with terrifying clarity. Marcus Vance hadn't just recommended a medical team; he had deliberately placed a compromise squad around Margaret Hart. By ensuring Margaret’s health deteriorated steadily while keeping William completely insulated in corporate busyness, Marcus was keeping William distracted, emotionally isolated, and reliant on Marcus to run the firm.

If Margaret died during the high-stress window of the merger, William would be devastated, leaving Marcus to step into the CEO seat and sign off on a valuation that heavily favored Vance Dynamics.

"They weren't just neglecting her, Thomas," William said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "They were waiting for her to die."

"What do you want to do, Boss?" Thomas asked. "We have enough to take this to the State Attorney General."

"No," William said, looking out the tinted window at the agency doors. "The Attorney General moves in months. My mother doesn't have months. I want the field staff records. I want every nurse who entered my house served with a subpoena by five o'clock. And then I want you to secure Clara Reed and her daughter."

Thomas looked surprised. "The cleaning woman?"

"She’s not just a cleaning woman, Thomas," William said, turning his dark eyes to his security chief. "She’s the only witness who kept my mother alive while Marcus Vance was setting up her grave. If Marcus realizes Clara has that notebook, she’s in danger."

"Understood," Thomas said, pulling out his secure radio. "I'll put a two-man detail on her apartment in Dorchester immediately."

"No," William said, opening the vehicle door. "I'll go to Dorchester myself. You handle the agency."
