Chapter 6 - The Breach

The lights in the west wing flickered and died, replaced instantly by the harsh, pulsing red glow of emergency backup generators.

Adriano reacted instantly. In a fraction of a second, he stood up, drawing a custom matte-black sidearm from his shoulder holster. He pulled Rebecca behind his broad frame, shielding her body with his own.

Dante burst through the suite doors, an assault rifle held across his chest, his face covered in sweat.

"Don Falcone! We have a perimeter breach at the east gate!" Dante shouted over the rising sound of distant gunfire. "A convoy of four delivery vans rammed the secondary barrier! It's the Boston crew—they're using heavy automatic weapons!"

"Arthur Vance," Adriano growled, his face morphing into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury. "Where is Clementine?"

"She's with the nanny in the subterranean safe room," Dante reported. "The lower blast doors are locked."

"Good," Adriano commanded. "Take Rebecca down to the safe room immediately."

"No!" Rebecca cried out, grabbing Adriano’s forearm. "Adriano, come with us!"

Adriano turned to her, reaching up with his free hand to gently cup the back of her neck. He pressed his forehead against hers, his breath warm against her lips.

"They came into my home, Rebecca," Adriano whispered, his voice dark and deadly. "They threatened the woman I love and the child I swore to protect. I am going to end this tonight."

He didn't give her time to argue. He pushed her toward Dante. "Go!"

Dante escorted Rebecca through a concealed service panel in the hallway, descending a narrow stone staircase that led deep beneath the mansion's foundation.

Behind them, the heavy steel security doors slid shut with a deafening CLANG, sealing them inside the reinforced subterranean bunker.

In the grand foyer above, the night exploded into chaos.

Glass shattered as heavy tactical rounds tore through the front windows. A dozen masked mercenaries dressed in dark body armor surged through the entrance, firing blindly into the grand staircase.

From the top of the marble stairs, Adriano Falcone stood like a titan of old.

He didn't hide behind pillars. He moved with cold, terrifying precision, firing his weapon with devastating accuracy, dropping three mercenaries before they could even cross the foyer rug.

Beside him, his elite guards returned fire, turning the grand entrance of the Falcone estate into a deadly bottleneck.

"FALCONE!" a raspy voice roared from the driveway outside.

Arthur Vance stepped through the ruined front doors, surrounded by four heavy enforcers carrying military-grade shotguns. In his hand, Arthur held a remote detonator wired to plastic explosives strapped to the mansion's support pillars.

"It's over, Adriano!" Arthur shrieked, his eyes wild with desperate madness. "You destroyed my family's legacy! I'm taking this entire damn fortress down with you inside it!"
