Chapter 6 - The Dinner at the Estate

Two weeks later, Bellafonte was completely transformed. The new menu—featuring rustic, authentic Sicilian dishes created by Penelope and Chef Laurent—was an immediate sensation. The restaurant was fully booked for three months solid, praised by food critics across the city as the most authentic dining experience in Manhattan.

On Sunday evening, a long black limousine pulled up to Penelope’s modest apartment building in Bensonhurst.

A sleek security driver held the door open as Penelope stepped out, wearing an exquisite, emerald-green velvet dress that hugged every curve of her full figure, her dark hair falling in soft, luxurious waves over her shoulders.

Dominic had invited her to his family’s private estate in Long Island for Sunday dinner with Salvatore.

When the car arrived at the grand stone gates of the Moretti estate, Penelope stepped out into the crisp evening air. The estate was breathtaking—a sprawling stone mansion overlooking the dark waters of Long Island Sound, surrounded by ancient oak trees and stone gardens.

Salvatore met her at the grand entrance, wearing a warm woolen sweater, his face lighting up with pure, unadulterated joy the moment he saw her.

"Mia figlia!" Salvatore cried out, opening his arms wide and pulling Penelope into a warm, fierce embrace. (My daughter!)

"Hello, Uncle Salvatore," Penelope laughed, kissing his weathered cheeks. She held up a small paper box tied with string. "I brought Agatha’s fresh cannoli."

Salvatore let out a triumphant roar, grabbing her arm and leading her into the massive, sunlit kitchen.

Dominic stood near the marble kitchen island, wearing a simple black sweater and dark trousers, looking relaxed and strikingly handsome. When he saw Penelope in her emerald velvet dress, his breath caught in his throat. His gaze swept over her full curves with raw, undeniable hunger.

"You look stunning, Penelope," Dominic said softly, walking over to pour her a glass of deep red wine.

"Thank you," she smiled, feeling her cheeks warm under his intense gaze.

That evening was magic. They sat at a large wooden table in the kitchen rather than the formal dining room. Penelope, Salvatore, and Dominic ate fresh pasta, drank rich wine, and spoke in a beautiful blend of English and Sicilian. For four hours, the dark, dangerous shadows of Dominic’s corporate empire completely vanished, replaced by the warmth of a real family.

After dinner, while Salvatore slept peacefully in his armchair by the fireplace, Dominic led Penelope out onto the stone terrace overlooking the dark ocean.

The cool night wind blew off the water, making Penelope shiver slightly.

Dominic immediately stepped up behind her, gently placing his dark wool coat over her bare shoulders. He didn't pull away. He stayed close, his broad chest resting against her back, his warm hands resting gently on her waist.

"Thank you for coming tonight," Dominic whispered near her ear, his breath warm against her skin. "My father hasn't smiled like that since my mother passed away ten years ago."

Penelope turned in his arms, looking up into his dark, intense eyes. "He loves you, Dominic. But he worries about you."

"Why?"

"Because you carry the weight of an entire empire on your shoulders," she said gently, reaching up to touch his sharp jawline. "And you don't let anyone help you."

May you like

Dominic looked down at her lips, his dark eyes burning with intense devotion. "I want you to help me, Penelope. I want you in my life."

Slowly, tenderly, Dominic leaned down and pressed his lips against hers. The kiss was deep, warm, and electric, filling Penelope with a intoxicating warmth that made her knees go weak. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer as the ocean waves crashed against the rocks below.
