Chapter 10 - The Horizon We Built

Three months later, the autumn chill had settled over Chicago, but inside the sprawling gardens of the Barrington estate, the air was warm with laughter and music.
There was no press. No syndicate rivals. No corrupt judges.
Just family.
Under a grand white canopy set up near the southern lawn, a small string quartet played a soft, classical melody. Around us, eighty of our closest friends—legitimate business associates, trusted inner-circle allies, and a very proud grandfather sitting in the front row—watched as Maya stood before me in a simple, elegant ivory dress that caught the afternoon sunlight without demanding a single bit of artificial attention.
Julian, Noah, and Leo—running around in matching miniature tuxedos—were currently attempting to steal pieces of the three-tier wedding cake while Uncle Marcus chased them across the grass with a paper napkin.
"I still can't believe you did all that paperwork," Maya whispered with a soft, teasing smile, slipping a platinum band onto my finger. "Buying out Judge Vance’s offshore accounts and forcing him to resign quietly just to protect our custody rights."
"That was just the preliminary paperwork," I murmured, taking her hands in mine and looking deep into those brilliant green eyes that had haunted my dreams for four years. "The real work is spending the rest of my life proving to you that I'm worthy of this family."
"You already are, Adrian," she said softly, rising onto her tiptoes to press her lips gently against mine.
As the applause erupted around us and our three boys came running over to tackle our legs, shouting about cake and butterflies, I finally understood what my grandfather had spent a lifetime trying to figure out.

Power wasn't about fear, or empire, or money.
True power was holding everything you loved in your arms and knowing nobody could ever take them away again.
