Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary of Storage Room B

By noon, news of the executive arrests had sent shockwaves through St. Catherine Medical Center. News helicopters circled the glass tower, and media vans lined the front driveway.

Inside the hospital, a heavy, uncertain silence fell over the staff. Nurses, orderlies, and technicians gathered in small groups near the nursing stations, whispering in disbelief about the gray-uniformed janitor who had just dismantled the executive board.

I walked down the third-floor corridor, no longer wearing the gray coveralls, but a tailored charcoal suit. Beside me walked Marcus Vance and my private legal counsel, Eleanor Vance.

I stopped outside Storage Room B.

I pushed the door open softly. Inside, sitting on a metal supply crate surrounded by boxes of sterile gauze, was Tessa—the young surgical nurse I had found crying weeks ago. She sat with her knees pulled up to her chest, looking terrified as the hospital's internal alarms hummed overhead.

When she looked up and saw me standing in a bespoke suit, flanked by attorneys, she froze.

"Elias?" she whispered, her eyes wide with confusion. "What... what's happening outside? They're saying the janitor bought the hospital... they're saying Dr. Hale was arrested..."

I stepped into the room, offering her a small, genuine smile. "It's true, Tessa."

She looked at my suit, then at my face. "You... you were the owner the whole time?"

"I needed to see the truth without a title shielding me," I explained gently, sitting on a wooden chair across from her. "If I had walked in here with a suit and a clipboard, Hale would have hidden his tracks, Melissa would have scrubbed the books, and you would have been fired for speaking up."

Tessa let out a shaky breath, tears welling in her eyes. "I kept the records like you told me, Elias. I hid the duplicate stickers in my locker. I was so scared Hale was going to ruin my career..."

"Hale will never practice medicine again, Tessa," I promised, reaching out to pat her shoulder gently. "And as for your career... as of today, you are being appointed as the Chief Surgical Safety Liaison for this hospital. You will report directly to me, and no physician in this facility will ever intimidate you or any other nurse again."

Tessa covered her mouth with her hands, sobbing with overwhelming relief. For the first time in years, the culture of fear that had choked St. Catherine began to break apart, replaced by the first dawn of real justice.
