Chapter 10 - The Grand Gala

One week later.
The Plaza Hotel ballroom in Manhattan was a blinding sea of crystal chandeliers, silk gowns, velvet tuxedos, and flashing press cameras.
The annual Harrington Logistics Gala was in full swing. Over four hundred of the nation's most powerful business leaders, politicians, and socialites filled the room.
Diane Harrington stood near the champagne fountain, looking miserable in a green silk gown. Stella was nowhere to be seen—she was currently residing in the quiet isolation of the Vermont estate, stripped of her corporate influence.
At 9:00 PM, the lights in the main hall dimmed slightly.
Raymond Harrington stepped up to the main podium on the elevated stage, smiling broadly.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Raymond announced into the microphone, his voice echoing clearly across the room. "Thank you for joining us tonight. As Chairman of Harrington Logistics, it is my absolute honor to introduce our new Chief Executive Officer... my son, Daniel Harrington!"
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.
Daniel walked onto the stage, looking devastatingly handsome in a bespoke black tuxedo.
He stepped up to the microphone, raised his hand to quiet the applause, and smiled warmly at the crowd.
"Thank you, everyone," Daniel said calmly. "Tonight is a milestone for our company. But before we discuss our third-quarter expansion into Asian markets, there is an important personal announcement I need to make."
The crowd went quiet. In the front row, Senator Vance and his daughter Julianna smiled, expecting the long-rumored engagement announcement.
Daniel turned toward the side entrance of the stage.
"Three weeks ago," Daniel said, his voice rich with profound pride and love, "I met a woman who taught me what true strength, dignity, and courage actually look like."
The side doors opened.
Ivy Carter stepped onto the stage.
The entire ballroom gasped.
Ivy was breathless. She wore an exquisite, custom-tailored midnight-blue silk evening gown that hugged her graceful silhouette, her long brown hair styled in soft, elegant waves falling over her shoulders. Around her neck sat a simple, stunning diamond pendant—a gift from Raymond.
She walked across the stage with absolute poise, her step smooth and confident, holding her head high.
She stepped up beside Daniel.
Daniel took her hand, lifting it in front of the four hundred guests and press cameras.
"This is Ivy Carter," Daniel announced, his voice ringing with absolute, unyielding pride. "She is a brilliant scholar, a woman of unbreakable integrity, and as of tonight... my official fiancee."
The room fell into a split-second of stunned silence—before Raymond led the room into a deafening, standing ovation!
Reporters scrambled to take photos of the stunning couple standing side by side under the grand chandeliers.
Julianna Vance gasped in horror, dropping her champagne glass onto the floor, while Diane turned pale as paper in the back row, realizing that the maid she had tried to destroy was now the future matriarch of the Harrington empire.
Daniel leaned down, looking into Ivy’s radiant, shining eyes.
"Are you okay, my love?" Daniel whispered into her ear.
Ivy looked out at the flashing cameras, then up at the man who had chosen her over everything. She gave a bright, beautiful smile that lit up the entire room.

"Scared and okay can be true at the same time," Ivy whispered back with a joyful laugh.
Daniel laughed softly, wrapped his arm tightly around her waist, and pulled her into a passionate kiss right in front of the world—a quiet, triumphant promise that the maid who was once forced to kneel would now stand proudly by his side forever.
