Chapter 9 - The Reclaiming

The next morning, the Harrington estate was transformed into a corporate war zone.

By 8:00 AM, three sleek black sedans pulled into the driveway. Six senior corporate attorneys from Manhattan stepped out, carrying heavy leather briefcases, headed straight for Daniel’s primary study.

Ivy rested in the master bedroom, wrapped in three warm down blankets, drinking hot tea prepared personally by Raymond Harrington.

Her knees were bruised and bandaged, but the warmth had returned to her skin. Her fever had broken during the night, thanks to Daniel staying by her bedside for six straight hours, applying warm compresses to her hands and feet.

The door to the bedroom opened gently.

Daniel walked in. He wore a crisp dark charcoal suit, his tie neatly knotted, looking every bit the global titan he was born to be.

He walked over to the bed and sat down beside her, taking her small hand into his warm grip.

"How are you feeling?" Daniel asked softly.

"Better," Ivy said, offering a small, genuine smile. "The warm tea helped."

"Good," Daniel said. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a thick blue folder.

"What is that?" Ivy asked.

"This," Daniel explained, opening the folder, "is the official restructuring of the Harrington Family Foundation."

He pointed to a line near the bottom of the document.

"As of nine o'clock this morning," Daniel said, "my father and I have officially voted my mother off the board of directors. Her credit lines have been capped, her access to company assets has been revoked, and she has been given twenty-four hours to relocate to our secondary property in Vermont."

Ivy’s eyes widened in shock. "Daniel... she's your mother."

"She is a cruel woman who almost killed the woman I love," Daniel said, his voice firm and unwavering. "Actions have consequences, Ivy. She spent twenty-six years treating people like disposable objects. Today, the bill came due."

Ivy’s breath caught in her throat. She looked into his eyes, her heart beating fast.

"The woman you... what?" Ivy whispered.

Daniel looked down at her, his expression softening into an intense, boundless tenderness. He lifted her hand and pressed a soft kiss against her knuckles.

"The woman I love, Ivy," Daniel repeated softly. "I love you. I loved you when you yelled at me in the street, I loved you when you stood up to my sister, and I loved you when you fought to survive in that courtyard."

Tears welling in her eyes, Ivy looked at the billionaire who had turned his entire world upside down just to keep her safe.

"I love you too, Daniel," Ivy whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek. "I think I loved you the second you handed me back my polish rag."

Daniel smiled—a brilliant, breathless smile—and leaned down, pressing his lips gently against hers in a sweet, lingering kiss that erased every cold, dark memory of the past three weeks.
