Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Siege

At eight o'clock Monday morning, the glass tower of DeLuca Global Holdings in downtown Chicago was under siege.

Dozens of news vans, camera crews, and reporters were crowded outside the front entrance, their flashing lights illuminating the rain-slicked pavement. Headlines across every major national news outlet read:

BILLIONAIRE LUCA DELUCA REVEALS SECRET HEIR AT DRAKE GALA! FAMILY FEUD: VICTORIA DELUCA EVICTED FROM LAKE FOREST ESTATE! STOCK DROPS 4% AMID DELUCA EMPIRE SUCCESSION WAR!

Inside the executive boardroom on the top floor, forty board members and major institutional shareholders sat around a thirty-foot conference table, whispering anxiously among themselves.

At the head of the table sat Victoria DeLuca, wearing a dark suit, looking like a queen defending her throne. Beside her sat Julian DeLuca and their senior legal counsel, Arthur Vance—the brother of the man whose credit line Luca had revoked the night before.

"Luca has acted erratically!" Victoria announced to the room, her stern voice echoing through the microphone. "He has brought public shame upon this corporation, threatened key financial partners, and placed the control of a forty-billion-dollar trust into the hands of an uneducated former domestic worker and an unverified child!"

"The DNA results were delivered two hours ago, Victoria," a voice rang out from the back of the room.

The heavy double doors swung open.

Luca walked into the boardroom, flanked by his chief legal advisor, Sarah Sterling, and three forensic auditors. He wore a sharp black suit, his expression cold, calm, and utterly dominant.

He threw a certified medical packet onto the center of the glass conference table.

"Ninety-nine point nine percent biological match," Luca said, taking his seat at the head of the table opposite his grandmother. "Wren DeLuca is my daughter. And under the original charter established by my grandfather in 1975, the moment a direct male heir produces a verified biological child, fifty-one percent of the voting shares automatically vest in a primary guardianship trust."

Arthur Vance leaned forward, sweating profusely under his collar. "Mr. DeLuca... that clause requires the mother’s consent to be managed by the corporate board—"

"The mother has already signed the guardianship agreement," Sarah Sterling announced, pulling a signed parchment document from her leather folder. "Maren Vance has appointed Luca DeLuca as sole corporate trustee of the child's shares."

Victoria’s face turned red with fury, her cane rattling against the floor. "You think you can just march in here and take control after eight years of absence?!"

"I didn't take control today, Grandmother," Luca said softly, opening a sleek black laptop on the table. "I took control six months ago. While you were busy using company funds to cover Julian's illegal short positions in European real estate, I bought back forty percent of the public floating shares through offshore subsidiaries."

Luca turned the laptop screen toward the board members.

"Julian DeLuca," Luca said, looking directly at his pale brother. "You have sixty seconds to sign your resignation from the board of directors. If you refuse, the federal prosecutors waiting in the lobby downstairs will execute a warrant for wire fraud and tax evasion regarding the 2018 Cayman accounts."

Silence descended upon the boardroom like a heavy hammer.

Julian looked at the screen, then at his mother, his hands shaking violently. He reached for the pen, his knuckles trembling, and signed his name on the line.

"Julian!" Victoria gasped, her eyes wide with betrayal.

"It's over, Grandmother," Luca said quietly, closing his laptop. "You spent thirty years treating this family like a business and this business like a kingdom. But you forgot one thing."

May you like

Luca stood up, adjusting his suit jacket, his grey eyes burning with an unyielding fire.

"Family isn't something you buy, manipulate, or destroy," Luca said. "It's something you protect. And if anyone in this room ever attempts to use my daughter or her mother as leverage again, I won't just fire you. I will ruin you."
