Chapter 10 - The Lighthouse Home (Happy Ending)

Spring arrived at the Hudson estate in a breathtaking display of blooming cherry blossoms, lush green lawns, and warm ocean breezes rolling off the river.
The forty-two-room mansion was no longer a cold fortress or a crime family stronghold. It was officially the head seat of the Castellano-Reyes Global Foundation, a thriving sanctuary dedicated to child welfare, family shelter development, and ethical corporate investment.
Today, the grand estate garden was decorated with thousands of white orchids, crystal chandeliers hanging from the ancient oak trees, and a long silk aisle leading to a floral archway overlooking the Hudson River.
Soft, romantic harp music drifted through the afternoon air as hundreds of guests—prominent business leaders, community members, state officials, and beloved estate staff—took their seats on the sunlit lawn.
In the master suite upstairs, Dominic stood in front of the tall mirror, adjusting his black silk bow tie. He looked remarkably handsome, his dark eyes filled with a calm, radiant peace that had permanently replaced the icy glare of his past.
A gentle knock came at the door.
Maria walked into the room, wearing an elegant silver lace gown. She walked up to her son, gently straightening his jacket lapels, her face glowing with maternal pride.
"You look just like your grandfather used to look when he was happy," Maria smiled softly, pinning a white rose boutonnière to his lapel. "Are you nervous, my son?"
"Not at all," Dominic smiled, kissing her forehead gently. "I've waited two years for this day."
From the doorway, eight-year-old Mia came bounding into the room, wearing a fluffy pink flower girl dress with a small tiara in her dark curls. She held a basket of rose petals in one hand and her old threadbare teddy bear in the other.
"Dad! Dad!" Mia squeaked happily, hugging Dominic's leg. "Mama is ready! She looks like a real princess!"
Dominic knelt down, hugging Mia tightly, picking her up into his arms. "And you look like the prettiest flower girl in the world, Mia."
Down on the grand garden lawn, the wedding march began to play.
Dominic stood under the floral archway beside his best man, Marco.
When the heavy oak doors of the conservatory opened, Sofia stepped out onto the carpeted aisle.
She was breathtaking. Her white silk gown draped elegantly over her graceful figure, her dark hair styled in soft waves adorned with small pearl pins, her radiant smile lighting up the entire garden. She carried a bouquet of white roses and yellow jasmine, her eyes locked entirely onto Dominic as she walked toward him.
When she reached the altar, Dominic took her hands in his. His grip was warm, strong, and steady.
"Sofia," Dominic said, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet garden. "Two years ago, I came home to an empty, cold house, expecting nothing more than silence. Instead, I found a little girl scrubbing a shirt, and a woman who had fought through hell to protect her child. You brought warmth, truth, and love into a life that was lived in the dark. You gave me a mother back, you gave me a daughter, and you gave me a reason to live."
Sofia wiped a tear of joy from her cheek, smiling deeply up at him. "Dominic... you proved to me that true strength isn't about power or fear. It's about how fiercely you protect the people you love. You gave my daughter a father, you gave me a home, and you gave us a future where we never have to be afraid again."
The officiant smiled broadly, addressing the gathered crowd. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife! Dominic, you may kiss your bride!"
Dominic pulled Sofia gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her with deep, passionate devotion, amidst the deafening cheers and applause of their family and friends.
White rose petals rained down over the happy couple as Mia jumped up and down, cheering wildly alongside Maria and Marco.
Later that evening, as the stars twinkled over the Hudson River and the sound of music and dancing echoed from the grand glass marquee, Dominic walked out onto the stone terrace overlooking the water, holding a glass of sparkling water.
Sofia walked out behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind, resting her cheek against his back.
"What are you thinking about, husband?" Sofia murmured softly.
Dominic turned around, pulling her close into his arms, looking down at her with infinite love. Out on the river, the distant beam of a lighthouse swept slowly across the dark waters, guiding ships safely to the harbor.

"I'm thinking about that old song my mother used to sing," Dominic smiled, kissing Sofia’s forehead gently as Mia came running out onto the terrace to grab their hands. "About the sailor who finally found his way home."
Hand in hand, the three of them walked back inside into the light, warmth, and everlasting peace of their home.
