Chapter 9 - The Vow on the Bluff

The sun was beginning to set over the Atlantic Ocean, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of violent crimson, molten gold, and soft pink.
The cliffside garden of the Valente estate had been transformed into an intimate white-and-emerald paradise. Gentle fairy lights hung from the ancient oak trees, and the air was filled with the fragrance of blooming white roses and ocean spray.
Only thirty people were present—Emily’s closest friends from her nursing days, Marco, Signora Vitale (who was now fiercely protective of Emily), and the loyal staff of the estate.
Standing at the edge of the cliff, overlooking the crashing waves below, was Dante.
He wore an immaculate white tuxedo jacket with black trousers, looking so breathtakingly handsome it took Emily’s breath away as she walked down the white aisle toward him.
She wore a gown of delicate white lace that trailed behind her on the green grass, her dark hair crowned with small white orchids.
Walking right beside her, acting as her official ring-bearer, was Brutus. The massive dog trotted proudly beside her, carrying two velvet ring boxes attached to his leather collar.
When Emily reached the altar, Dante held out his hands to her. His fingers were warm, steady, and trembled slightly with an emotion so powerful it brought tears to her eyes.
The priest spoke the ancient words, but neither Dante nor Emily heard much of it. They were locked in each other’s eyes, surrounded by the golden light of the setting sun.
“Dante Valente,” Emily spoke her vows first, her voice clear and strong. “Three months ago, a wounded dog brought you into my tiny shop. I thought you were a monster. But beneath the armor and the guns, I found the most fierce, loyal, and loving man I have ever known. I give you my heart, my life, and my soul, forever.”
Dante took a deep, shaky breath. He looked at the woman who had transformed his dark, violent existence into a life filled with warmth, laughter, and light.
“Emily Parker,” Dante said, his deep voice thick with raw, unadulterated devotion. “For fifteen years, I lived in the dark. I built walls of iron and blood to keep the world away. But you walked through my gates with nothing but courage and kindness, and you saved me. I vow to protect you, honor you, and love you through every storm, for as long as I draw breath.”
He slipped a breathtaking ring onto her finger—a flawless three-carat diamond surrounded by tiny emeralds. Emily slipped a simple, elegant band of platinum onto his finger.
“By the power vested in me,” the priest announced, smiling, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Dante didn't wait. He stepped forward, wrapped his broad arms around Emily’s waist, and lifted her off her feet, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss that made the entire gathering erupt into loud cheers and applause.
Brutus let out a loud, happy bark, jumping up to rest his front paws against Dante’s side, joining the embrace.
