Chapter 8 - The Legacy Reborn

With the Moretti treaty signed and the syndicate's illegal operations completely dismantled or transferred, a profound peace finally settled over the Lake Forest estate.

The guards were still present, but their heavy tactical gear was replaced by discreet security details. The high iron gates remained closed to the world, but inside, the grounds came alive.

By the spring of 2026, the flower shop in the North End was permanently closed, but a massive, state-of-the-art conservatory had been built on the estate grounds. Grace spent her mornings there, surrounded by thousands of rare, beautiful blooms, teaching local inner-city youth the art of horticulture through a foundation she had established under her own name.

Noah’s fifth birthday arrived in May.

The backyard was decorated with bright banners, balloons, and a massive wooden playground Roman had spent three weekends building with his own hands, refusing to let the security detail help him.

"Higher, Daddy! Higher!" Noah laughed, his dark hair flying in the warm spring breeze as Roman pushed him on the swing.

Grace stood by the patio, holding two glasses of lemonade, watching them. The lines of worry that had etched her face for five years had completely vanished, replaced by a radiant, peaceful beauty.

Gabriel Russo walked up the stone steps, wearing a simple button-down shirt, looking more like a corporate executive than the ruthless soldier he used to be. He handed Grace a small stack of financial ledgers.

"The logistics firm had its highest quarterly earnings today, Mrs. Valente," Gabriel said, a rare smile breaking through his serious demeanor. "Completely clean. Honest wages for three hundred workers from the South Side. The auditors gave us a perfect rating."

Grace took the ledgers, her eyes shining with pride. "Thank you, Gabriel. For everything."

"I didn't do it, ma'am," Gabriel said, looking over at Roman, who was currently letting Noah climb onto his shoulders like a mountain. "The boss just finally found something worth building for."
