Chapter 7 - The New Order

Three months later, the morning sun broke over the Rhode Island coastline, painting the Atlantic ocean in brilliant shades of gold and amber.
At four thirty in the morning, a sleek silver SUV pulled through the newly repaired South Gate of the Morelli estate. The gate opened silently, its optical sensors perfectly calibrated and greased.
Officer Harris, wearing a brand-new dark navy security supervisor uniform with the Morelli Management Services crest on the lapel, stepped out of the guard station. He smiled broadly as the SUV parked in the executive space near the East entrance.
The driver’s door opened, and Ivy Bennett stepped out.
She wore a crisp, tailored charcoal-grey pantsuit that complemented her soft, curvy figure with effortless elegance. Her short chestnut hair was styled in chic, glossy waves that brushed against her jawline. In her hand, she carried a sleek leather briefcase instead of a cleaning bucket.
"Morning, Chief Harris," Ivy smiled, stepping onto the fresh pavement.
"Morning, Boss," Harris replied proudly, handing her a fresh paper cup of dark roast coffee. "Everything’s clear on the perimeter. The new night crew finished their rounds twenty minutes ago."
"Thank you, Harris. How's your daughter feeling?"
"She had her six-month checkup on Tuesday, Ivy," Harris’s eyes shone with deep gratitude. "The doctors say she’s fully in remission. She starts soccer practice next week."
"That’s wonderful news," Ivy said warmly, taking a sip of the coffee. "Make sure you take next Thursday off to watch her first game. I’ll cover the shift roster."
"You're the best boss in Texas, Ivy," Harris chuckled.
"We're in Rhode Island, Harris."
"Doesn't matter. You're still the best."
Ivy walked through the service doors into the main kitchen. The atmosphere was completely transformed.
The industrial space was buzzing with energy, but there was no shouting, no panic, and no fear. Chef Marco was whistling a classic Italian opera while chopping fresh herbs, surrounded by four young apprentices.
"Ah! La Boss!" Marco called out, waving his chef’s knife in the air. "Look at this sea bass, Ivy! Delivered thirty minutes ago directly from the docks! Perfectly chilled!"
"Looks magnificent, Marco," Ivy grinned. "Remember, we have forty guests for the charity gala tonight. The Senator’s new chief of staff is allergic to shellfish, so make sure the secondary line is completely isolated."
"Already done!" Marco patted his chest proudly. "Mrs. Carter double-checked the seating chart two hours ago!"
Ivy walked out of the kitchen and into the grand hall.
Mrs. Evelyn Carter was standing near the grand staircase, wearing a beautiful dark blue managerial suit, holding a tablet. She looked ten years younger, her posture proud and energized.
"Good morning, Director Bennett," Mrs. Carter teased with a wink.
"Oh, stop it, Mrs. Carter," Ivy laughed, wrapping her arms around the older woman in a warm embrace. "How is the staging coming along?"
"Flawless," Mrs. Carter reported, showing her the digital checklist on the screen. "The new housekeeping crew finished the West Wing at six. The antique silver is polished, the greenhouse flowers are bloomed, and the caterers arrived on time."
"No missing forks?"
"Not a single one," Mrs. Carter smiled softly, her eyes turning tender as she looked at Ivy. "You did it, child. You turned this place from a prison into a home."
"We did it together," Ivy corrected her gently.
Footsteps echoed down the grand marble staircase.
Ivy looked up.
Dante Morelli descended the stairs. He wore a perfectly fitted black tuxedo, looking every inch the powerful sovereign of his shipping empire. But as his eyes landed on Ivy standing in the center of the hall, his dark, formidable expression instantly softened into a look of profound warmth and adoration.
He walked straight toward her, completely ignoring the lieutenants waiting for him near the main doors.
"Good morning, CEO Bennett," Dante said, his deep voice carrying a low, romantic rumble.
"Good morning, Mr. Morelli," Ivy replied, a playfulness sparking in her brown eyes. "Is the estate meeting your corporate standards today?"
"The estate is perfect," Dante said, stopping inches away from her, taking her small hand in his broad palm. "But the owner of the estate is hoping his favorite business partner will join him for breakfast on the terrace before the guests arrive."
Mrs. Carter coughed politely, turning her back with a knowing smile as she walked toward the dining room.
Ivy looked up into Dante’s grey eyes. Over the last three months, their professional partnership had grown into something much deeper—a quiet, powerful romance built on mutual respect, fierce protection, and undeniable passion.
Dante didn't try to hide her away. He brought her to his board meetings, stood beside her at public events, and made sure everyone in the Eastern Seaboard knew that Ivy Bennett was the most important person in his life.

"I have ten minutes before my budget review with Julian," Ivy said softly, letting her fingers lace through his.
"Ten minutes is enough," Dante whispered, leaning down and pressing a tender, lingering kiss to her lips.
