Chapter 7 - The Battle of Westchester

Gunfire exploded outside the estate.
Julian Ashford had launched a full-scale assault on the Hail estate, sending thirty armed mercenaries across the grounds under the cover of fog.
"Wesley, get Maeve and Clara to the underground vault!" Garrett ordered, drawing two pistols from his shoulder holsters.
"Garrett, no!" Maeve cried out, grabbing his arm. "Come with us!"
Garrett looked at her, kissing her forehead deeply. "I spent three years hiding from my feelings, Maeve. I won't hide in my own home while men try to take my family. Lock the vault from the inside. I will come back for you."
Maeve looked into his steady, fierce gray eyes and nodded. "Come back to us."
Wesley guided Maeve and Clara down the hidden staircase behind the library, sealing the heavy reinforced steel door of the panic room.
Upstairs, the estate became a warzone.
Garrett led his men with ruthless efficiency. Move by move, room by room, he ambushed Ashford's mercenaries. His winter-gray eyes saw every angle, his weapons firing with lethal accuracy. He was no longer just a mafia boss; he was a father fighting for his daughter's future.
Within forty-five minutes, the sound of gunfire began to fade.
Garrett stepped through the shattered glass doors of the main terrace, stepping onto the lawn where Julian Ashford stood surrounded by his last three surviving bodyguards.

Julian, a silver-haired man in his sixties with a cruel face, raised his hands in disbelief as Garrett walked out of the smoke, bleeding from a minor cut on his arm, but entirely victorious.
"It's over, Julian," Garrett said calmly.
